...of course, he waited to take their money first. Ahhh, that Kompassionate Konservative Kapitalism! icon_lol.gif

    WCTI12NEW BERN -
A lesbian couple said an owner of a restaurant handed them a letter condemning homosexuality as they were walking out of the building.

Ariel and Shawnee McPhail said they went into The Stingray Café, on 520 S. Front Street in New Bern, and ate a meal there on Dec. 4. But they said as they were leaving, the restaurant's owner, Ed McGovern, handed them a letter that stated God's opposition to homosexuality. The letter reads as follows:

This Jackass"God said in the last days that man and wom[a]n would be lover of self, more [than] the lover of God.

That man and woman would have unnatural [affection] for one another. Then, the coming of the Son of Man, who is Jesus. So please, look at your life. See how it hurt[s] everyone around you. And ask the Lord to open your eye[s] before it [is] to[o] late.

    The Love of Christ

P.S. my daughter also was gay. It destroy[ed] her life and my grandson."

WCTI12McGovern confirmed with NewsChannel 12 that he did give the couple that letter, out of love, and that he did something similar to another lesbian couple in the past.

McGovern said he wrote the letter because he did not approve of the McPhails kissing outside of his restaurant. But the couple denied doing it.

"First of all, we didn't kiss. We don't kiss in public. We were holding hands," said Shawnee McPhail. "Secondly, if I did kiss my wife in public, what married couple would you go to and say, 'how dare you. You cannot hold hands and you cannot kiss in public therefore you deserve my judgement.'"

The couple said everyone has the right to his or her opinion, but what McGovern did crossed the line.

"If we're experiencing it, then other people are too and that's not fair," said Ariel McPhail.

Likely he's hoping for the Chick-fil-A-style economic boost from Phobia, Inc. (NOM et al.)?

The owner might give you a letter of condemnation right after you pay your bill. So, tip accordingly.

If you enjoy your meals with a heaping side of bigotry, then this just might be the place for you.

McGovern: "School? What's that? None of this devilish learnin' business!"

I'm guessing he went to that school with one Book in the whole place.

    Math class was like:

YOU HAVE FIVE LOAVES AND TWO FISH. YOU MUST FEED 5,000 PEOPLE. HOW MANY GALLONS OF TARTAR SAUCE WILL YOU NEED?

I believe New Bern does have a yachting community. Never piss off a lesbian sailor.

Granddaughter maybe... the one who's life wasn't 'destroy.'

Despite the grammar as bad as it is, that penmanship was too good for a quick scribble. I'm guessing he wrote it after their prior visit, then saved it in case they came back. Scary... that's probably like the third draft!

As one commentator pointed out; Their money was good enough for him. If he was so high and mighty, and believed their lifestyle was such an infraction in the ways of god, why did he even serve them in the first place? Greed is a "sin" too.

In the letter it says his daughter was a lesbian, whose live was ruined as well as his grandson (I am assuming her son). I have no doubt it did ruined her life...but not because she was gay herself but she had an absolute idiot for a father.

But funny how things happen. He does not agree with us 100% and probably does not want us to have rights, but he will 100% take our money.

LOVE the Yelp reviews. Especially this one:

This place was full of sin. First of all, I was offended that they were open on the Sabbath (Exodus 20:10). Secondly, I was quite turned off that they offered shellfish on their menu (Deuteronomy 14:9-10) as well as pork (Leviticus 11:7-icon_cool.gif. I had requested food with the fat trimmed off, but they scoffed at my request (Leviticus 3:17). The wait-staff was clearly wearing clothing woven of more than one kind of cloth.(Leviticus 19:19), they had their hair and beards trimmed (Leviticus 19:27) and one even displayed a tattoo.(Leviticus 19:2icon_cool.gif.

All in all, this was a very blasphemous experience, I will not be returning.

The hypocrisy is consistant with religion: for instance, orthodox Jews accepting that gentiles do tasks for them otherwise forbidden for them to do on their own on their Sabbath; or the Dalai Lama disappointingly denouncing our humanity by declaring gay relationships only sort of acceptable and at that only for nonBuddhists.

This is just more of that sort of crap. With all due respect, they can take their religiousity with regard to their attempts to denigrate us and shove it up their respective asses.

Not just clever but you can tell it was written by a str8 person because we would have gone on a bit more about the fabrics.

If the couple were comfortable with publicity, I'd have taken it to the local paper with an editorial discussion.... otherwise, I'd have had a response to this individual.. I'd have told him off and reported him to the better business bureau.

Was I surprised to hear this? Yes.
    However was I shocked? No.

It's NC....the owner is a moronic religious/christian republican. As with most of this ilk, they will most certainly take the money first, and then show their true faces. icon_rolleyes.gif

What an absolute contrast to the wonderful teacher mentioned in the other thread entitled, "Teacher Leaves Touching Note On Student's Coming Out Essay"

Like someone else said, the guy was happy to take their money before harrassing them. I'd have told him to stick it up his ass. Few things get me that pissed, but I am very protective of ,my partner, and that would really set me off.

Bigots don't have it easy, don't they? He is righfully criticized for taking their money, and then berating them in his letter. Had he outright refused to serve them, he might have run afoul of equal rights protection in public accommodations if they existed in that jurisdiction. At the minimum, he knew he would cause a stir by refusing to serve lesbians. If he really felt it necessary to do the letter thing, perhaps he could have presented it in lieu of the check? Anyway, I hope these bigots will soon run out of places to do their dirty deeds. Already sunlight and the scorn of the world is a good disinfectant.

As premeditated as that appears, the poor couple might need to worry about what he did to their food. "Out of love," of course, I'm sure!
