"...the three-mile access road that was built on the island is ready for residents to take a drive to nowhere. It was paid for by some of the $223 million in federal funding that sparked ridicule among opponents of congressional "pork-barrel" spending."

"...Palin, now the Republican vice presidential candidate, let the access road go ahead because the contract to build it had been signed, a campaign aide said.

Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein calls the road, which was paid for by federal tax dollars, a waste of money that could have been used to fix his city's roads and sidewalks."

    Story Highlights

Road on Alaskan island was built with some of $223 million in taxpayer money

Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein calls the road a waste of money

Road was supposed to be access connector to the failed 'Bridge to Nowhere'

Is Larry King really running things over there at CNN? That shit came out probably 72 hours after she was named. I guess it's a good thing this didn't come out and get buried when she was the media darling for 15 minutes. The slow trickle of bad news for McCain/Palin is probably good for Democrats in a country of voters with 3 second attention spans... if Palin's skeletons were all let out at once most American's heads would explode (evidence: the populace goes ape-shit when 2 celebrities come out as gay in the same 24 hour period).

It's amazing that for so long she was able to weasel out of a lie (Al Franken would call that a "Leisel"), about saying no to the bridge to nowhere, by saying that that yeah she kept the money, but it was to improve infrastructure in Alaska (hence "Leisel" and not totally a lie).

This is her typical Nixonian method of covering up cat shit with dog shit. She's done it with trooper-gate saying, no she didn't fire him because he broke her sister's heart, it was because he was trying to get funding to investigate rape cases. Note: this is not Palin's only anti-rape-victim policy, so at least we can praise her for consistency. (I could continue down this daisy-chain and further praise her for consistency in her anti-choice policy, if you're going to be dogmatic about reproductive rights, as all pro-life people are, then you might as well go full-out and ban abortions for rape and incest victims, too).

This is going to be a LONG 41 days...

It's possible that Saracuda is harboring a rape fantasy.

Actually the trooper hasn't been fired yet, just continually harassed officially, even by Palin's husband who has no legal governmental role in this. The fired guy had oversight of the State Police, and it's alleged his failure to fire the Trooper is what got him fired from state government himself, despite contradictory reasons given by Palin for the dismissal.

Thanks for clearing that up... it's so hard to get the straight, full story from anywhere.

Todd Palin's role in all of these scandals is really bizarre... he's always making phone calls on behalf of the governor to promote her petty cronyism. Yet another sign that she is FAR from a feminist... it really cancels out her womanness as a reason to vote for her.

You're probably right, these cuckoo right-wingers invariably have the kinkiest personal lives... I imagine her to be the rapist in the fantasy though, she seems like the strap-on type... and Todd... well... just look at that Freddie Mercury mustache!

Sadly, though, it's probably something more like her using the .5 examples there are of false rape reporting (a scorned woman taking revenge... ironically, very Palinesque) and/or the ignorant mentality that rape-victims should share the blame in actual rape incidents ("the slut was asking for it"), both of which are classic conservative mindsets. It's similar to dismantling any form of public assistance because of the presumed existence of "welfare queens".... "baby out with the bath water"...

Interestingly, in a hostile situation like what Palin has created in Alaska, rape statistics would go down, to the political benefit of Palin, because reporting goes down. It's a vicious fucking cycle that compounds the already horrible rape epidemic in this country.
