For a culture that guys are so driven to get the perfect look, there are so many good looking gay guys around. How ironic is that.

    Your thoughts?

    Ever use a dictionary?

    i·ro·ny
    1 [ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-]
    noun, plural i·ro·nies.
    1.
the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

Men are in most cases, visual based creatures. We see something that we like. We pursue.

So yes in most cases, if we want to attract the same sex. We start to train ourselves to be visually desirable.

It's easier to tell who the hotter one is in a gay couple than in a straight couple... the comparisons and pressures are clearer

I think that would be based on a general preference and what a person would define as 'hot' in their eyes xD

Based on what I seen on internet...gay guys are just like straight men.. few are attractive... rest are average or below.

Wow, this is really bad use of the word irony. The sentence makes no sense.

Maybe the OP means - it's ironic that gays who are so good looking as a whole still feel driven to get the perfect look?

English a second language for the OP?

Perhaps let's try this: the harder we try to look perfect, the more we look for the man with perfect looks, and ignore all those who in the quest for perfection, have made themselves look merely good, but not become perfect. I can see some irony in that.

I think its more like a situation where you meet the man of your dreams, and then meet his beautiful wife.

You're possibly going to hate this, but a lot of straight people are just as driven to get the perfect look, even though there's so many that are good looking around. Now how ironic is that?

    Finally someone got the irony.

No English is actually, my native language but I'm bilingual if that helps

The only real "irony" is the fact that there are so many good looking LGBT men and women and most of them are single.

You would think that with so many good looking people, they would be taken off the market, but the irony is that they are still single. Just look at all the guys on this site.

However, in the straight world its different..

Every good looking straight person I know is in a relationship or married with 2.1 kids.

Actually there's nothing ironic about that.

Good looks does not mean we will escape being single.

The appearance will get you the man but it is the brains and heart that will make the man want to stay with you.

Truth be told, gay guys spend so much time hung up on playing dating/sex games, playing the judgemental game, playing the "I'm still in high school" popularity games. And so many gay men are busy looking their best. All that shit with having to work, loans to repay, etc....Who has the time to develop the inside? No wonder so many good looking men are single. They just jump from one hook up to the other...because they keep attracting and getting the men, but they're not keeping them.

    Ta da!!!

I think I get what you're trying to say. I saw this topic on guys who think they have to "work harder than most to get attention." I was browsing the profiles and it struck me how many attractive guys thought they weren't up-to-snuff in some way. I think gay people are just people who get subjected to media idealism just like everyone else.

Irony ore not irony. How ironic is my phonics!

If you say something is ironic but it's not ironic is that ironic?

The OP is a bit unclear....

That being said, I have honestly never seen a Man that was UNattractive. I can honestly say I can find something beautiful about every man I have ever met....and I have...met...ALOT.

That is NOT to say that I am attracted to every Man I have ever met -- just that EVERY Man has something that is beautiful to someone.

The only downfall I really see in many Gay Men is the RIDICULOUS need to be beautiful and DESIRED by EVERY other Gay Man on the planet.

It just doesn't work that way...

That's awesome and it's true. There is nobody inherently "ugly" because, as cliche as it sounds, there is something beautiful in every person. Albeit sometimes it's a bit more clouded over "jaded-ness" or other things but it still exists.
I also do agree that just because you find something beautiful or attractive about someone doesn't necessarily mean you are attracted to them, it can be a genuine compliment with no ulterior motive.

It's also true about the whole "wanting to be desired by everyone" which is unfortunate. I know that it applies to the general world and not just the gay world, but I suppose men generally being a little more "physically" driven and competitive, unhealthy comparisons take place.

To be 100% honest, I've never really been one who strives for the "perfect" body, I do what I can to be healthy but I'm not exactly driven to becoming ripped (hence no body shots lol). Not that there's anything wrong with it, I'm just saying it's not particularly a passion of mine (yeah lol I know, I have no idea why I joined a fitness site then either). I guess the above was a hard lesson learned for me because joining this site was a bit of a shock considering how extremely fit everyone is so I did get lulled into unhealthy comparisons.
I'm in the process of getting over that and just accepting how I'm going to be and realising (and hoping) there's something in me that someone will find beautiful.

Okay major tangent off topic, basically I'm agreeing with Cash lol.
