Everybody knows the best way to get big is squats on squats on squats on squats, errrrryday. I have good leg strength, my squat max is 315 for 4, my problem is form. I know my form isnt perfect and Im always afraid im gonna fuck up my back.

Enter the goblet squat! This thing is amazing! it almost forces you into perfect form and ass to ground.

If you struggle with squats, or just want to learn how to do em, read the article and try them, they are now easily my favorite leg exercise!

Squats are nothing more than a closet fag's way of showing off his ass.

If you want legs and glutes, work legs and glutes. Squats only work on fucking up your spine.

Geez. You've got the right frame to put on some decent muscle mass. Hope you plan on getting into bodybuilding. I think you'll do well.

As for squats.. Different people respond differently to exercises. I tell people that they shouldn't feel compelled to do 500lbs back squats in order to get big legs. It's a matter of finding the right exercise that your legs respond to. Squats, cycling, running.. it's all good.

Also, if you like goblet squats, you should try Zercher squats.

    ??

What exercises do you recommend for legs and glutes? Leg presses?
Squats are pretty generally accepted as an essential exercise for overall strength, and they are functional. Being able to stand up while carrying something heavy on your back is a pretty good way to be strong. What's the point of building leg strength if you can't lift something heavy on your back?
Unless you have some serious structural imbalances, they should not mess up your spine.

Dead lifts and Leg press are good. Also leg extensions and leg curls. Squats are great as well, i would recommend machine squating instead of heavy free weight squating if u have balancing problems

Similar. But with front squats, you don't go down as deep. And your back is naturally straight and perpendicular to the deck. If you lean forward, the bar is going to roll off your shoulders.

I disagree. Even in perfect shape and condition, you can damage your vertebral disks quite fast with improper form.

And the 'proper form' require core power (abs/obliques/lower back) not lagging on leg power.

In short, the stronger your legs are, the easier to fuck up your back, because vertebral disk are just the same no matter how strong you are.

I love squat, but they are not for beginner.

So I find the OP interest in 'safer' way to do them quite good.

squats are mostly legs... if you're hurting your back, it means you have too much weight and/or bad form

    Thanks. I will try these.

Squats aren't my favorite, my legs are naturally big so its never been much of an issue.

I am def guilty of not going to parallel when its heavy.. but I don't shake and I think I"m good at engaging my back and core to assist in the lift.

Yeah sure you might get vertebral disc problems, but most reasonable people stop when they have pain.. especially mid-line pain.

Squats are awesome....mix it up: low bar, high bar, front, and overhead!

Obviously, not a perfect squat but it's my 1RM and I was pretty happy with it...345lbs, which is about twice my body weight.

Squats have given me the best results of any leg exercise. Your form will change depending on the location of the bar on your back and the distance between your feet. If you want help analyzing your squat form post a video and I'm sure you'll get some help. Especially if you are dressed like you are in that pic.

I find a wide stance low bar squat best for heavier weights. It is a good stable position with the majority of the weight balanced around the center of your body. This places less stress on your back and stabilizers
