    Just leave it SFO. . . . .

Harvey Milk, I hate that name. It sounds ugly. I'm not undermining what he did, but actual name is awful.

I kind of agree. Leave it SFO, or even George Moscone who did as much for pioneering gay rights in SF and was assassinated in office along with Harvey. It was just one supervisor who proposed it but knowing wacky political correct san francisco, they'll do the wrong thing and vote it in.

Im a fan of his, and recognize his efforts, of course, but name a terminal after him (like Tom Bradley Intl terminal at LAX), or name a plaza or the upcoming basketball stadium after him (oh god that ll go over well lol).

On a serious note, whyatdid Harvey Milk do that George Moscone (or Dianne Fienstein for that matter) didn't, besides be openly gay?

Not trolling, this is a legit question/actual search for the knowledge that I am clearly lacking here.

Regardless of who he is, that is NOT an appealing name...........especially for an airport.

So if they rename the airport, will the airport code change to HMO?

Yeah... I think it's best if you watch the movie. It's a lot to describe.

Ugly name or not, changing SFO to Harvey Milk International would be amazing! Hopefully it happens. How exciting!

I agree with the idea of naming a terminal after him instead. As you point out Moscone also was instrumental in pioneering gay rights and he was the 37th mayor of San Francisco.
I'd love to see them name the basketball stadium after Milk. Now that would be progress!
Even if they change the airport name I'm quite sure the code will remain SFO.

Watched it two years ago, kid. Nice love story with some gay rallies thrown it, but it doesn't do anything to answer the question I have above

"Just watch the movie" is the kind of answer given by someone who has no answer. If anybody has an actual answer and not a referral to Hollywood popcorn claptrap that everybody's already seen, please fill me in. I'm doing my Internet research as well.

The sports stadium name will be licensed out like all the others. It's part of the cash flow projections. It won't be changed to Milk, but I think he and Mayor Moscone should get terminals named after them, with a wall of memorabilia about each of them.

I don't think it is the right thing to do to honor Harvey. He was an amazing man, who stood up and fought back when most gay men couldn't get the ass out of the closet or the bathhouse. I have often wondered what he would have done with the rest of his life or what he would be doing today. Cleave probably knows best. He does need to be honored by San Francisco and by the nation but in away the befits his legacy. We all get the chance to be better men because of him.

Hell yeah, it will change. Its the same airport that has a Yoga room and banned high fructose corn syrup from terminal 2. BTW , The Virgin terminal is ALL organic I love San Fran. People think and live the way the rest of the world will , years to follow.

Very doubtful. I like the sound of "Harvey Milk International Airport," but the airport code will always remain SFO.

ATL has been the code for the Atlanta Airport when it was just called "Atlanta Airport." Then after name change #1 to "William B. Hartsfield International Airport," it remained. Still stayed as ATL when the name was changed again to "Hartsfield-Jackson Interational Airport." The second change came about when they honored former Mayor Maynard Jackson and combined the name (William Hartsfield was also a former Mayor).

They somehow managed to pick 90069 for WeHo's zip code so anything is possible.

Please go rent the movie Milk or the documentary The Mayor of Castro Street. Or you can read his Wikipedia page. Harvey Milk was really an important figure in gay history. Everyone is making a big deal of Jason Collins right now, but imagine being the ONLY out public figure and also needing people to vote for you.

Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man to run for public office. He was elected to be a SF Supervisor. He was killed by another SF Supervisor as well as SF Mayor, George Moscone. Dan White was found not guilty by the infamous Twinkie Defense. This sparked the White Night Riots in San Francisco.
