Pardon me if this sounds really dumb, but I'm still pretty fresh at this bulking and weight training stuff.

Right now I am doing an intense building routine where I am spending 2 to 2 1/2 hours in the weight room 5 days a week. This is to last for about 3 months.
I can stick with it for this time, as I am very dedicated, however, I am wondering if maintaining the muscle mass after I put it on won't require me to spend so much time in the gym.

No. In fact, I'm not sure you're not overtraining now. There are plenty of successful routines that only involve an hour or so 3x/week.

well i'm doing the rj spartacus 12 week muscle building regimen. i do spend a lot of that time preparing for the exercises and figuring out how to do them, so as time goes on i won't be spending as much time in the gym.

Maintaining is quite easy...30-45 minutes a day, 2-3 days a week, if that.

And you don't have to eat near as much.

Agree. Muscles need recovery time to grow. An hour 3x per week is ideal, especially when starting out. Too many routines are influenced by genetically gifted who are taking pharmaceuticals that can shorten the needed recovery period.
