    Hey All,

So this year, after having a great New Years in Key West with friends, I've been convinced to go to the Fantasy Fest they have in KeyWest around the 3rd week of october. It's supposed to be a lot of fun.

However, it's also supposed to involve a lot of costumes and that is not my forte. My friends who are coming along are handling at least some of the costumes (one of them is doing togas for our group, the other has orchestrated getting us all college wrestling singlets to wear as a team). That said, I'm not really going down there for costumes, but just to blow off steam and have a great time.

Has anyone been to one of these things before? How serious is the whole costume thing part of it?

Anyone going this year? Maybe if there were enough of us, we could have a small RJ cocktail hour some evening.

Actually is it more limited clothing the better from my experience in Key West.

A lot of people get their bodies painted up like super heroes, muscle gods etc.

Other wear latex, leather, military gear, jock straps.

This really is a fun party to attend.

    Gulp!

Fun party, except those with a certain, ahem, shyness about exposure. Sounds like both fun and a mild state of panic is in store for me :-)

I'll just consider it a personal growth experience!

I'm going and this will be my 2nd time to Fantasy Fest. Last time was in 2000 and I had a blast. The costumes can be pretty elaborate, but when I was there last I didn't even have one and probably won't this time. The costumes really only came out one night from what I remember during the parade night. Otherwise, people aren't really wearing much. icon_smile.gif

Hehe I was born and raised in Key West. No you don't have to have a costume, but Fantasy Fest is an excuse to go all out and be wild and fun! Yes, you'll see lots of body paint and skin. Just expect to see stuff you'd love to see, and stuff you don't ever want to see again! I think an LJ Cocktail Hour at the Garden Bar of Bourbon would be very fun!

I went last year, voted in the Coronation, know some of the organizers, had lots of fun, didn't wear a costume myself. Can send you a few pics if you want. They're my own without public links, so don't think I can paste them in this thread.

We stayed at the Equator gay guest house, a bit small but what my partner likes. He forbade me the delightful debauchery of Island House, where I'd formerly stay when still single.

Forgot! Not sure if we're going to it this year, lots on our plate. But will mention it if we do, maybe some of us could meet, might even be staying in the same place.

I'll also be pedaling 165 miles down to KW in The SMART Ride fundraiser for HIV/AIDS, staying there Nov 15-16, Sat & Sun nights. Another reason I may skip the Fest in October.

Equator huh? Cool! They just did more renovations which I'm looking forward to seeing.

My friend owns the Equator and we stay with him (at his place about a mile away) and hang out there and at Bourbon (it's a small place and he's "in cahoots" with the guys at Bourbon and Island house :-) Lots of fun, but I still remember the first time I walked in and I was one of only 3 guys with clothes on (they stayed that way)

I'd be up for a RJ meetup -- anyone want to suggest a day? I know some days have bigger parties than others, so maybe one of the "lesser" days? I'm there from the 22nd to the 28th.

Then you know the small outdoor bar they have, near the covered area by the pool, and the several rooms along the back deck by the fence leading from that area.

Last time we were there, each morning my partner & I and another couple who came down with us would have a light breakfast in the covered area. And almost like clockwork a 20-something guy would leave his room along that back deck (it was next to our own room), and saunter out naked to the bar.

He'd get 2 coffees and a couple of pastries, to take back to his room. And I felt like such an old perv, with most of the other guests at that time being older like me, too, as suddenly all the conversation would stop, all our heads would turn, and tongues would hang out.

The young guy was a doll, but it was innocent enough, and very mild compared to other things I've seen at gay guest houses. But the sight of him being so relaxed and nonchalant, standing bare-ass as he got his coffee, was an incredible turn-on for a number of us.

    Go figure. [SIGH]
