I like antiquities. So the announcement of a 3000 year old find in Egypt piqued my interest. But I found the story is about finding a statue's head in Egypt. How can finding an ancient statue's head in Eqypt be news??? ...

    Story Highlights
Red granite head believed to portray 19th Dynasty Pharaoh Ramses II

Antiquities council says discovery made about 50 miles northeast of Cairo

Archeologists still digging at the location for the rest of the statue

would it help if it were thought that the rest of the statue would show a peasent giving Ramses head to to demonstrate the invention and prove the use of lamb-skin condums? icon_eek.gif

Now now, we all know its news because they found out that it was removed by a priest and sold to traders after Ramses cheated on the priest! Which leads me to wonder why the priest was messing with someone over the age of 13... bad joke...

Come on, it's Ramses, probably Egypt's most powerful Pharaoh. Heck, if they found a marble statue remnant of his left testicle, it'd be news.

Caslon, despite what you've probably been hearing about people discovering new tombs every day in Egypt, it's not quite like that. icon_razz.gif

New finds are rarer now. Ramses II was also a very notable pharaoh... he was supposed to be the Pharaoh during the Exodus after all. LOL

And he was responsible for one of the worst cases of religious suppression (if you can call it that) in history. He defaced all remnants, records, statues, hieroglyphics and whatnot of the worship of the Sun-Disk (the first ruler-endorsed monotheism in history) during the rule of Akhenaten. Worhsip fo the rest of the gods had been restored though after Akhenaten's death and the ascent of his short-lived son Tutankhamen. Though WHY Ramses would go so far as to erase everything about the reign of Akhenaten from history is a mystery.
