What's your opinion of this practice? Do you just let them do it? Do you speak up? Does it bother you at all? What are your limits?

The other day I was at the gym in the locker room after I finished my workout and as I was headed into the steam room, an older guy followed me in (While this person's age isn't my personal preference in guys, it was his behaviour that was actually irritating me.. so don't flame me that I'm ageist lol).. didn't think anything of it at that point until he sat RIGHT next to me and made sure I could have a front-row seat of his ballsack. I didn't say anything at that point and just ignored it. About 10 minutes later I think he got exhausted of the heat and headed for the door which I was sitting right next to. I got a bit more creeped out when he stopped in front of the door and point-blank stared at me until I couldn't not look back and be like "what?".. he said nothing and left and then came back a few minutes later. I got irritated and went to the shower so I could just leave and not 10 seconds later, who do I see standing not even a foot away from my shower door despite the fact that there were 6 others that were free right next to mine? Now in addition to being angry I'm also a little bit startled so I shout to him that I'll have him killed if he doesn't fuck off.. purpose of shouting was to get everyone else to see what he was doing which worked.

icon_cry.gif I just wanted a little relaxation time after my workout!

I've had a way older guy just stand by the door way and stare at me whlie I was changing. Felt really uncomfortable, and I'm still starting out there's not even anything good to look at.

I'm not sure making a death threat in public is wise. Loudly declaring your intention of informing the management should have been sufficient.

I've only done that once myself, in a somewhat similar situation where a guy was hounding me in the locker room while we were undressed. I believe I used the word "stalker" loudly and he make himself scarce. I didn't actually report him, partly because I didn't know who he was, and wasn't sure if anyone would back me up, possibly creating a messy legal situation I didn't want.

Incidentally, I never had a problem with military gyms. Guys were pretty casual and laid-back about being naked in the locker rooms, and kept their eyes to themselves. Common for guys to shave at the sinks or weigh themselves while totally naked. Maybe because of the macho image, and the knowledge that sexual misconduct was a serious chargeable offense. I wonder if DADT repeal has changed that?

I agree with Art Deco. There are more tactful ways to handle an uncomfortable situation. And we don't care that you're an ageist.

My gym has an ever-present locker/sauna cleaning staff aka peen police to keep that stuff to a minimum. Nevertheless, my workout partner and I have noticed that in the time it took us to change, stretch, lift 6 sets, do cardio and swim there was a group of guys still "showering".

Locker lizards are a fact of life....it's when they get aggressive that I push back. Fortunately we have the PP to keep our junk safe. Oh...they make is very clear that cell phone use in the locker room will result in immediate explusion with no refund of dues.

I know you intents are pure, I just comment to help you realize :

You didn't said if the guy was tall, or fat, or good looking, or anything like that. Just said he was old.
Your story would have been just as creepy without mentioning he was an 'old guy'.
It was not your purpose, I'm sure, but for us 'old guys', it's a bit like the line that because there is some gay pedophile, most gay have to be pedophile.

Hope you don't take my comment as a flame, it's just a wink from an old guy ;-)

I remember first seeing signs prohibiting cell phone and camera use posted on a men's locker room entrance beginning around 2005. Interestingly the women's locker room had no such signs. And the stated penalty was also expulsion.

That locker room already had an attendant for towels and such. But a member filled complaints against 7 other men for sexual indecency with him icon_exclaim.gif, and so now the gym required an attendant to be present at all times, your "peen police". If the one guy had to step outside they'd bring in another before he could leave, the place never unattended for a minute.

The irony was that a several month investigation established that the charges were all false. My closeted ex had dated the accuser, who was having Mormon guilt over his gay orientation, and he outed my ex publicly when they broke up, and then went after these other guys, too. With the result that the guy himself got expelled from the gym, and the other 7 reinstated, though after obvious damage to their reputations. And the peen police continued. Makes yah wonder if some gyms are worth the drama & effort. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anything that "smacks" of this kind of thing bothers me...like checking out another guy when he's at the urinal, staring constantly when you're dressing or anything like that in the sauna or steam room. It's like, "get the fu** away!

I think he would still be complaining if the guy was young and hot. IT's not being looked at that irritated the OP, it was the obvious, aggressive and unnecessary invasion of his space 'Sitting right next to me, .

Scum like this eventually get booted. The key is to discretely report them to staff.

I have a couple of guys in the gym that make me uncomfortable. And yes, they are old and ugly (but I'm not that young so I can say it). One sits in the locker room mostly dressed but just sit there staring at no one and not moving for a long time, like 20 minutes. Gives me the creeps. Maybe because I've also seen his truck and its covered with uber-right-wing bumper stickers full of hate and racism. The other is I think a homeless guy who lives in his van. He uses the gym to shower and gets on a bike with six layers of clothes on and just sits there watching TV. No peddling. I know I shouldn't mind him, he doesn't smell or bother anyone but he looks creepy with long, scraggly unkempt hair. I really don't like it when I have to use the bike next to him. Bad attitude on my part? I try to be charitable in my mind but I really don't go to the gym to deal with that.

The psych major in me is curious about how guys would react if they found the "peeper" to be really attractive. My theory is that people in general (straight/gay/male/female) often don't realize how much attraction plays into their negative or positive perception of a person's actions. The anonymous guy in the locker room shower is the most reenacted scene in porn and gay movies.

From a personal perspective, the OP's situation happened to me a couple times. On each occasion I looked the guy in the eyes and asked if he had a fucking problem. That remedied the situation in every case... except the one where he stole my boxer briefs.

When I was at my old gym, there was this old creepy luigi kind of guy who would make it very obvious he was checking you out. I didn't mind if people took a glance or two, but this guy got so confident he would start jacking off and get as close to me as possible. Gave him a death stare and he backed off.

Went away to school, came back for the summer, found out he tried the same thing on another guy and he got kicked out.
