so american unleashed it's new look the other day. personally, i hate it. very bland.
i wish they had kept the traditional eagle and the tail colors look like a giant colgan air aircraft. so, what do my fellow rj aviation weenies think?

Not my favorite either. I understand they had to abandon the metallic livery because it's not an option with the carbon fiber body of the 787 (although it might be a while before they can fly the ones they have ordered).

I agree. Looks horrible. Should have retained the stripes and the eagle. What is AA without the eagle?

Hate it, but still a better airline than Delta.

I really like it , like the flag on the tail , waving in the wind , show speed and patriotism ...Like also the eagle's head on the front bulk ..So much better than our Delta's logo ..

My favourite still is Quantas and their bouncing 'roos on the tail ..

I was disappointed with what they chose, but a rebranding was long overdue, especially if they want to have a fresh start when they exit from bankruptcy. I like the new logo and refreshed font, however does anyone else see the close resemblance to this one:

The tail design just seems like a cheap, arrogant use of the American flag. I think it would have looked better to carry over the logo element into the tail somehow.

There were bunch of other concepts out there and was hoping for something similar to either one of these:

    Old branding with modern refresh:

Old logo with simple, minimalist feel:

    Same one, but retaining Eagle:

Or completely new, modern design retaining classic Eagle elements:

This change was discussed the other day on "Marketplace," which is an NPR business news show I like. Someone in the industry said the logo looked "like a bird peeking out of a shower curtain."

So I had to browse the interwebz to check this out, but I really like it. It's a cleaner, more updated look which will fit the company well when US Airways eventually merges with them (which the new company will retain the "American" name).

dislike it immensely, but easy to transition to another company name if/when AMR comes out of bankruptcy and gets taken over by US-despair. By Taking AA out of the logo, frees them for a new name.

I think its becoming a trend now to simply choose white and then sprinkle bits of color....This is mainly due to expenses.

You know I'd be interested to see what KLM new livery would be in the coming years. They really haven't updated much since the last time.

Reference to Greyhound on-time arrival? AA & US-Airways are terrible with on-time arrival and I don't know why those two are considering a merger. Look at United and Continental. After that merger, customer service took a u-turn and everything went down hill - on-time performance, scores of computer glitches, operations, etc.

    "Something special in the air."

"We know why you fly. We're American Airlines."

It certainly does look like a blatant rip off seeing this. You would think they could have at least stylized some white stars into the blue stripes.

the blue of the American flag is a very specific shade. That new designs blue doesn't look like that shade - it's lighter and more greenish. I guess that's why it bugs me. They just aren't American flag colors

I kind of like it and considering the old look was not going to work on the new surfaces in the coming years. it is pretty good.

It's ugly. I don't see the point of the rebranding if this is all they could come up with.

this is not the first time AA had to paint an aircraft due to composit. when AA flew the airbus a300's, they painted all of those aircrafts a light, dove, gray. so painting is nothing new. what i do not like is the tail colors and new eagle. maybe if US takes charge, they will stop the madness and perhaps reintroduce a newer version of the eagle.
