Well, he IS an ugly date.

But this hasn't helped McCain. Aside from Letterman's own audience, this has become a news item with even wider coverage, and not very favorable for McCain.

McCain looks like he is panicky in the time of "crisis." ...Throwing the debate up in the air.... cancelling at the last moment on Letterman ....and then not noticeably contributing a thing to the bailout negotiations.

Even republican strategists are concedeing that this was a boner move for Gramps .....

What made it EVEN worse is that he was seen teaming with the House Republicans who blew the talks

    Me? I'm applauding his move
Has Just the effect that I want to see
    adding more momentum for Obama

It certainly looks like McCain fumbled the ball on this one. But looks can be so deceiving. Just watch and see, yer gonna love this one. Poor old Letterman is just going to be some collateral damage, to Letterman.

Actually McCain DID contribute something to the bailout negotiations: chaos & confusion. Watch in the days ahead as Republican spin tries to reverse the damage to the campaign. It may start tonight during the debate.

I think I have an inkling on what kind of "October surprise" John is referring to: that Osama bin Laden has been captured by US forces and that the administration is going to reveal this in October to improve Republican support within the general populace.

Given the administration's general incompetence and specific incompetence at withholding information for long, I doubt this possibility.
