The Gay Agenda - He-Man is SO Gay!

Based on my screen name, you can tell that I'm a fan of He-Man. Lately, I've been watching the episodes of He-Man on Hulu, reminiscing my childhood and trying to catch up on where I left off. The episode that I watched last night really took me by surprise because I knew that He-Man had gay undertones, but this episode last night was clearly taken from the gay manual on coming out to ones parents.

There are so many juxtapositions between He-Man and being gay, but like I said, this episode, The Rainbow Warrior," was clearly analogous to one's parent revealing your gay secret. Come on, the title of the episode is "Rainbow Warrior," so keep this in mind when you watch the scene below.

Doesn't this remind you of the stories where parents hint to their children about knowing their so-called secrets?

If I had any doubts about the juxtaposition between He-Man and being gay, this episode sure got rid of them. I haven't read any academic or scholastic journals or essays on the above, so this would be an interesting thesis for a paper, but I'm sure someone by now has already thought of it.

Hahaha... Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell were around during the 80s, so I'm surprised they didn't come out screaming over how He-Man was trying to indoctrinate the youth with the gay agenda. icon_lol.gif

Edit: The phrase I used, "The Gay Agenda," does not imply that I actually believe that there is any kind of agenda. Rather, I am making fun of people like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, whom you will see mentioned in the last paragraph, because they are always taking innocuous cartoons and turning them into the so-called "Gay Agenda" orchestrated by us gays with the sole purpose of perverting the youth.

I really wish they still made cartoons like they use to! There are not many good ones left. In fact the only ones worth watching now are Young Justice and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers Prime and the occasional GiJoe Retaliation...

it's a bummer the blame society has put on cartoons instead of blaming no-good parents!

That's Prince Adam who is He-Man's secret identity and who's also known to be a little effeminate, carefree, compassionate and soft, whereas He-Man, his alter-ego, is the "strongest man in the universe," dominate, forceful and a manly-man. See, this is another comparison between He-Man and gay identity - the sub/dom dynamic.

Oh, thanks, I didn't think of that! icon_eek.gif

Well, I'm sure that even He-Man has his scruffy days, so we'll just have to use creative license.

    Makes Orko voice."Yay He-Man!"

My thoughts: I think as a kid and even watching it today I just see a straight man who is a hero and the fashion statement on his world was wearing bright colors. And She-Ra as was aimed for little girls even though many of us guys loved it. Back in the 80s things were taken more literal and at face value. This cartoon was for children and the messages were very positive and simplistic however overtoned they may appear in modern day, I doubt the producers thought like people think today about classic He-Man. The work it took to make that cartoon was a heavy load. They didn't have the technology that is today. Everything was done by hand.. I find it some what silly when someone tries to turn a straight persona into something opposite of its intent or representation just because it is benevolent, colorful, bright, loving, humane and filled with positive messages of cheer and love. So that equals gay? I think most kids in the 80s who loved He-Man, knew his ficticious persona was straight and thought of nothing else. Its fun to look at it today and read into all the overtones that speak LGBT! But I know when they remade this cartoon in 2002 they certainly manned him up and removed the pinks.

Funny, but when I watch that clip, I'm under the impression that Adam's mother released him first because she knows he's He-Man.

I suppose that Cringer's in the closet, too? Ohh, and Skeletor must represent the gay skeleton in Adam's closet! icon_rolleyes.gif

The only gay undertones found in the He-Man cartoons are those provided by the viewers.

You're reading too much into this one, OP.

So much for knowing what is going on. Until your post, OP, I didn't know He-Man was a cartoon character. I thought it was just a nickname.

Really? Seriously? HEeek.gif Which part of "juxtaposition," "analogous," and "remind you of" confused you?

I'm quite aware that Queen Marlena was referencing He-Man's identity, not that Prince Adam was gay. I was drawing a comparison between the two dissimilar narratives. That is what a juxtaposition is, by the way -- "the act of positioning close together, [or] placed side by side, especially in order to show a comparison [or contrast]."

Before scoffing and rolling of the eyes, maybe a little reading comprehension is in order. HErolleyes.gifskeleek.gifHErolleyes.gif

I know of this cartoon, but not much about it.

If I didn't know about the supposed gay undertones, I would have missed it completely. There definitely something weird with the wording there for a "completely normal" cartoon.

    Scantily-clad outfit - check

Bulging biceps and rock hard abs - check

Huge, ahem, sword - double check

    Is there any doubt?

Lol it did seem the same as a mother letting her son know he's gay. I could never have seen He-Man that way as a little boy lol. Looking back it did take a real man to wear pink like that in the 80's.
