I just learned a neat keyboard trick to type accented letters...

...on my Apple devices. I hold down the letter, like an e, until a selection of accented characters appears. There's a number above each. While holding the letter key down, I also press the corresponding number, and get that accented letter. Works for caps, too. For example:

    èéë çć ûü ßś ÉË

Prior to this I would go to a separate special characters window to make selections, very clumsy. I'm not sure why I'm not getting a repeating key, and whether non-Mac keyboards will do this. Anyway, I like it. icon_biggrin.gif

Hmm... thnx, that seems to be new. I always just used the option key, but it's sometimes hard to remember which option brings up which accent. e.g. option u, (which appears to do nothing) then type u, produces ü. Oooo... that changed too, it shows the accent in the first step now.

That feature has been part of iOS for years.

I used to do lots of translating for my school district and it was always easier on a Mac than a PC. The Apple products seemed so much more user friendly, especially when it came to accents and any special character. Thanks for the information. I am sure it will come in handy soon.
