For the past 3 weeks I have been studying in the middle east. It has been one of the most awesome experiences of my entire life, mostly because of the people that I have met here. But sometimes i get depressed because I know that most of these people could NEVER stay friends with me if they knew i was gay. It's illegal here.

It's easy to judge people for being homophobic, but I don't judge the people that I've met here because they are genuinely nice people.....just with very strong religious convictions. I'm really popular on this campus after only 3 weeks. I am constantly getting invited to go places and meet people, and have dinner with people's families. They even bought me a thobe.

One of my best friends is a honduran catholic guy i met in high school. Another is a korean christian. It is tough sometimes because i feel like I am investing in friendships that will eventually burst into flames. icon_sad.gif

Most college 'friendships' have an expiration date anyway. Just as suddenly as they appear and solidify they disappear when it's time to graduate/move back, even without the gay factor.

Most of life from here on out is strictly amicable. You will realize that most people only like you, and you only like them until you learn their true nature.
