Ok, going on me I-Pod ASAP!!
I totally get this song and I totally get this artist. I'm not sure if she has reached gay icon status yet, but she is totally on her way. I have said before that gay men can relate to women like this and elevate them to icon status because, simple put, they can say the things we cannot say. I think this song is a total critique of straight culture and is basically telling it to get over itself. So called obvious gay traits are , I agree, gay, but also displayed by straight men too so doesn't this mean they are really just traits with no gender or sexual preference specificity?
I know some straight men like this who I would almost bet big money they are gay because they are so catty, self obsessed, judgemental, peevish, fabulous, sophisticated, sweet, and/or just plain gay acting. However, I've learned not to judge people by traits because traits can be deceiving. Have you ever met that person who seems like a total jerk and they display all the traits : nose in the air, unprovoked sarcasm, superiority complex, mean disposition, but then you take the risk of talking to them and getting to know them and find they are totally different (much more pleasant) from how they appear?
Also, with the growing popularity or should I say, just awareness, of gay attitudes, traits, and characteristics in media and society will come a propensity by society to judge anyone who displays these traits as gay even if they aren't gay.
I believe it is already happening and for women I think this would add more stress to their persuit of a good man like the artist attitude in the video and the tone of the song illustrate. Basically, she seems tired of trying to accurately judge traits (that society and media has beat her over the head with) that tell her that her man has an aversion to women!!
I mean, just imagine (and I'm just drawing names from a hat here), that RealJock's GuiltyGear, StelTom, and Caslon were straight, but still acted like they do and you were a straight woman and they were your boyfriends!! Yes, quite frightening and quite frustrating. Get the song now? I know, I'm the metaphor queen, thanks
