LOL! Apparently not much surprise to those who worked with him in TV & movies, or the supermarket tabloids that would sometimes mention it.

And if you watch his Gomer Pyle, USMC TV sitcom, there are times when his character's goofiness becomes downright flaming. (I once asked a Marine Lieutenant if it was true the Marines used Gomer Pyle reruns as training films. Thank gawd I outranked him, he almost did a Sergeant Carter on me)

Hmm. for some reason, I thought he had died. Good to hear the opposite.I think his career was all about his singing voice and the Gomer bit was just a matrix. He did sing well.

As for the "news," the 38 years part says a lot in favor of both partners. Wish them many more.

Yeah...i'm more surprised this guy is alive. I thought he was dead. Better late than never. His partner will not have to wait long for the big check. And he dies a married man.. it's a win win.. hooray for gay marrying.icon_razz.gif

    Well, GAWleee!

Some old lesbian friends are the same way. Before a certain time, it was never spoken about. They've been together 20+ years and never addressed it. Lived together, bought a house, owned a paper route, small landscaping venture...together. Lesbians? They've never said. icon_confused.gif

    Good on ya, Gomer!

Just about everyone else from that show is dead: Sheriff Andy, Barney Fife, Aunt Bee, Floyd, Goober, etc. Not surprising it's assumed Gomer would be, too. The only one still active professionally is Opie (Ron Howard), the child star in the cast. And he turns 59 in March! icon_eek.gif

I heard he had cancer for years, hence the death rumors.

    Shirtless pics of Jim Nabors?

My cousin was a Gomer Pyle fan.... I avoided the reruns like the plague.

    He sure does!

I was born in Indiana and this is kind of a "theme song" for me. I watch the 500 every year even though I don't get into auto racing at all (all of us Hoosiers do this--it's in our genes).

His partner may have to wait a long time, actually. 82 isn't what it used to be and he lives what I would assume is a stress-free life.

He received a liver transplant (arranged by Carol Burnett) in 1994, when he experienced sudden liver failure from Hepatitus B after a trip to India. Having survived that, his odds get better every year!
