So 2 weeks ago I asked my boyfriend to marry me..and he said yes. We are going to have about a 6-8month engagement looking to get married sometime in the fall or early spring of next year depending on family. The problem is we live in a state that has banned gay marriage. So we are on the hunt for state that we can both find employment in and get married. Do you guys have any suggestions? Also would like this to be a gay friendly adoption state because we would like to start the process with in the next 6-12months. Thanks Guys!

Washington state allows the gays the marry and smoke pot and lord knows, if you adopt, you will need to smoke a lot of pot.

New York would be the closest to you. Some states, like mine, will recognize the marriage, but not allow you to get married so you could move here afterwards.

Thanks guys! Connecticut is probably where we will end up..honestly I wish there wasn't such a limited area that we were able to get married and start a family in..hopefully it will change in the future.

Congratulations. You know if you don't want to go to a coast Colorado SHOULD have civil unions passed by this spring and has legislature on the books for 2014 to legalize marriage. I have a lot of friends who married in other states and now live happily in cities all over colorado with a lot of community support.

Best of luck in your decision, either way it sounds like you have the opportunity to start with a clean slate with your fiance and that is very exciting.

Being a Connecticunt myself; I can tell you it's the pits.
If you do relocate here I would stick to the West Hartford area, or something more along the NY/CT border.

RI recognizes gay marriages, and imo would be a much nicer place to live.
