    Hey everyone,

After months of research on cities and visiting a few of them. I decided I am moving to Chicago!

I won't be able to move until I find a job. So if any you guys know of any available jobs, specifically in human resources or insurance (experience in both) let me know.

I have the ability to fly for free on standby, so I can come to meet/interviews without much of a problem.

Also I would love to talk/meet with and network with anyone in the Chicago area.

Anything I should expect moving to this city?

The very best of luck in Chicago. It is an awesome city with so much to offer and it has a beautiful four season climate similar to my hometown. Don't let the news media's harping on the city's high homocide rate scare you. From what I have been told, most of the gun violence is occuring in the rough, ghetto neighborhoods and public housing projects.

I'm super excited. I'm from Pennsylvania so I'm pretty used to the crappy weather between Oct and March.

Have you started to consider where in Chicagoland you want to live? Lord knows, there is no shortage of Fortune 500 companies to canvass. Just be aware that Chi took a really big hit in the recession/depression. The upside is that real estate prices in the city have come back to Earth...the downside is jobs are very competitive. A few friends have gotten their foot in the door doing unpaid internships. You may have to go that route and do something like bar tending part time to pay the bills.

I'll ask around. I think you will love it....just be prepared to work in a position below your qualifications for a while.

That would be really depressing to not be able to get a professional job, that is part of the reason I was gonna move there for opportunity. If you know of anyone I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Don't worry about our winter weather; global warming is definitely in effect here. Aside from the big blizzard we had exactly 2 years ago, we've barely had any snow. In fact, we just had a 3-inch snow last night, which was the first accumulating snowstorm in almost a year.

I think I would rent... just in case...

Illinois residents and businesses are already taxed to the hilt, with major employers openly threatening capital flight if their burden is made heavier. A massive “temporary” tax increase – 67 percent on individuals, 46 percent on employers – is scheduled to expire in 2014, but the Chicago Tribune worries that it’s starting to look awfully permanent. That possibility is not exactly enticing vitally-needed business investment into the state.

"Now this could only happen to a guy like me
And only happen in a town like this
So may I say to each of you most gratef'lly
As I throw each one of you a kiss

This is my kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
    My kind of people, too
    People who smile at you

And each time I roam, Chicago is
    Calling me home, Chicago is
Why I just grin like a clown
    It's my kind of town

My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
    My kind of razzmatazz
And it has all that jazz

And each time I leave, Chicago is
    Tuggin' my sleeve, Chicago is
    The Wrigley Building, Chicago is
    The Union Stockyard, Chicago is
One town that won't let you down
    It's my kind of town"

Hey thanks for the comment guys. I look forward to seeing some of you guys there. Honestly I've mostly only heard good things except for the weather.

I live in PA so I am used to the cold weather I just go to wear more layers.

I moved here from Denver about ten years ago and I love Chicago. I miss the mountains and the Colorado climate, but Chicago has a lot to offer, especially in the summer. If/when you move here, be sure to explore the lakefront. Let me know if you have any questions about decent neighborhoods.

As for jobs, there are often quite a few postings on craigslist.org. Chicago is one of a handful of cities where employers have to pay (only $25) to post on craigslist, so that helps to keep most of the job posting legitimate. Are you on LinkedIn? That's a good networking resource. Indeed.com is another decent job website. Another option to consider would be temp to perm possibilities. That seems to be increasing in popularity.

I work in HR and will keep my eyes open. Feel free to send me a note if you have any questions.

    Best of luck to you.

Check out Allstate buddy. They were taking resumes like mad last I heard since they are expanding their HQ size.

Edit: I meant resumes not applications hah
