According to Gov. Dave Heineman he broke the public trust. The Omaha World-Herald under a public records request had found he had made improper cellphone calls (thousands of late night calls) to 4 women, none of who was his wife, who incidentally filed for divorce last July stating that "the marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken." Lt. Gov. Sheehy was the presumed successor to Gov. Heineman who is term limited in the strongly Republican state. He had the backing of the Governor in the upcoming 2014 race, who withdrew it Saturday in a hastily scheduled news conference. His website is still up and if you click on the bottom left side link "Gov Heineman" it links to the Governor's website where the top of the page is the story of Sheehy's resignation. Ouch!

Why do republicans have so many sexual issues? From closet cases to airport bathroom sex play, these guys get caught too often and it is almost always because they are acting out on impulses that they could have done had they just had some sort of honesty in their lives.

From the Omaha.com website (of the World-Herald paper): Heineman's office is now reviewing the phone records to determine whether Sheehy should reimburse the state for the 2,300 calls, lasting a total of more than 28,000 minutes, made from the state-issued cellphone over the past four years to the four women. icon_eek.gif

And democrats don't? Better have a talk with Sen. Bob Menendez about right now.

Thats why I dont put "Rep" or "Dem" in the topic. Because both parties have their shameful episodes. I did refer to Neb. as a Republican state to underscore that Sheehy (if anyone investigated briefly could find out his party) was pretty much in line for succession of Heineman who was backing him, as he probably would win the primary and then the general election.

And FIF, I'm aware of the developing Menendez story here in NJ. It was top of front page in today's Phila. Inquirer. If he was engaged in the prostitute thing he is toast.

    Just to clarify, my comment:

"And democrats don't? Better have a talk with Sen. Bob Menendez about right now."

    wasn't directed at you.

Yes I gathered but wanted to relate he must go even if he is Dem if the evidence builds against him. Thank you though for your clarification.

My threshold is pretty high in these kind of instances and this kind of stuff has gone on throughout human history. The difference and downside now is that technology allows us to pry into private lives like never before in human history. Just wait until fed government grant money allows even the smallest government entities to purchase drones. It's gonna get MUCH worse.

Let me clarify, it seems to me, the vast majority of screwy political sex stories seem to involve republicans. That said, this country is sadly hypocritically crazy about sex. I could careless if some senator likes sucking dick in airports, or makes nasty calls while he Jacks off, or fucks whores, this is silly sex play that mature adults enjoy. Since we have such sad sack mid-level management type politicians we get these boring sexcapades that should not be shameful, except when performed by hypocritical blowhards.

Let's see you prove that one so I'm glad you included the "it seems to me"

It's hard for me to have any sympathy for anti-gay Republican politicians who run around telling everyone they are morally superior to the dirty gay people, and then are caught in some sex "scandal" that offends their sexually repressed/self-righteous constituents.
On the other hand, when will these politicians (of both parties) start standing up for themselves and telling the media that their personal lives are no one's business? So what if he made a bunch of phone calls to other women? Yeah, he was probably jacking off or at least carrying on some kind of virtual affair with them, but why would anyone care except his wife, who is now divorcing him anyway?
Is this a "middle-American" thing? It makes no sense to me why he couldn't carry on doing his job.

Considering many of these things happen on the "coast states", I would call it an "american thing", not a "middle american" thing.

I agree 100%. All these coast huggers and big city lovers need to get out of their coastal, urban cacoons and come discover the beautiful, scenic interior of the Midwest and Rocky Mountain Regions- "the real America".
