Some might say it's defined as how you make it and some may say life is already planned out for you. How does one define himself?

That state of being, having, and doing that causes either you to be happy, or others to forget their own.

Life is like swimming in the ocean. You can swim in any direction at any speed. The waves and currents also move you in ways you cant control.

"Life: How do you define it?"

I used to ask that question and one day heard this:

    "There's an infinity of ways
And just as many people striving for them, oh
Who's to say what is wrong or right
Only we can judge what lies within us
    It's our code of life

So much is counting on what we say
So many virtues that we must weigh
Where's the light we long for
    love must find a way
And all things in their time will follow, oh....

It's like a wave of honor in motion,
    floating away,
    It's like an overwhelming emotion,
    one and the same
If we take the time to find it
We can help define a way
    uncharted

    Code of ethics, feel it
    Stand, be counted
Life is only what we make it
    So don't fake it
    Just make it right

    Like a visionary's dream
There's a cry for truth we need to know

Is it life or a novel's theme
Underlying codes we'd live or die for
    It's a mystery

Violence is growing, it's in the air
People are starving while others stare
Where's the light we long for?

    Love must find a way
And all things in their time will follow - oh
If we take the time to find it
We can help define a way
    uncharted

    Code of ethics, feel it
    Stand, be counted
Life is only what we make it
    So don't fake it
    Just make it right

    Code of ethics, live it
    Stand, be counted
Life is only what we make it
    So don't fake it
    Just make it right"

Going on a limb here, but the secret to living my life is hidden in plain sight.
Men in love, would be the proper definition of life, as a gay man, imho*

    life |līf|
    noun ( pl. lives |līvz| )
1 the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.

    Seems legit.

Definitely not planned out. Although you may be somewhat limited for external factors like money and so, ultimately, we have more freedom than most think we have. Some simply decide for "cruise control", while others aren't afraid of setting their own pace.

So in the end it comes up to: do we want to be an expectator, or be a part of the making?

I think Emily Dickinson described it best: it could be miserable and agonizing or the simplest of all gifts. My life is a gift today.

    Of Course—I prayed—
    And did God Care?
He cared as much as on the Air
    A Bird—had stamped her foot—
    And cried “Give Me”—
    My Reason—Life—
I had not had—but for Yourself—
    ’Twere better Charity
To leave me in the Atom’s Tomb—
Merry, and Nought, and gay, and numb—
    Than this smart Misery.

    One of my favorites:
Emily Dickinson - Not seeing, still we know:

Not seeing, still we know --
    Not knowing, guess --
    Not guessing, smile and hide
    And half caress --

And quake -- and turn away,
    Seraphic fear --
    Is Eden's innuendo
    "If you dare"?

I've came to realize Life is suffering- the Buddhists knew it all along--to be honest we live in the worst of all possible worlds. So life is pretty much making life bearable.

I see it as an opportunity to experience everything that it is to be alive. To do things that make you happy and to follow no societal image of what a good life should be. I want to love, lose, cry, and rejoice. I want to live my life day by day and waste no time on what lies in the future or what is lost in the past. I think we as a society ignore the fact our time is limited. We will all die. Why spend your life at a job you hate for what we're forced to believe is a successful life? We are alive at this moment, do everything you can to make the most out of it and to ultimately live a happy life.

^ Nice. I'm agreeing with Saber170 here. Life is what you make of it; whether you try to do your best or sucumb to negativity. Now, there are somethings that we can't control, but wouldn't life be boring without some bumps in the road? I just think that since we have the opportunity to live, live life to the fullest and don't regret anything. Every decision you make is a part of your life and when you get knocked down, hop right back up and try even harder. Eventually everything will work out in the end if you strive for happiness.

Wow. Awesome guys!! Every post had a good insight of they thought what life is about for them. Personally It's like the debatable Nature Vs. Nurture with Life. You need both though to survive. Though, I believe more on what you make of it, but not only what you make of it but how you make of it. We really do choose what we want in life. Whether we want to be successful in building a better foundation for their future or could care less and hope something lucky happens to them. What ever it is, I hope everyone has a goal and purpose in life and thrives for it. Because without determination in life, hope will never cease to exist. And without hope, you lose your faith on how you want you want your life to become. I'll be coming with more posts later. icon_smile.gif Thanks
