So I don't really know why I'm sharing this, but it impacted me incredibly today. As relayed by a nurse friend of mine who works with heroin addicts in San Francisco's Tenderloin district, a man came in who said his cat had recently died.

Apparently he had taken the cat to a vet because the cat was ill. The vet said that the cat had terminal cancer, and that after 18 years together it was time to euthanize her. The vet wanted to charge $500 to euthanize the cat, money that the man clearly did not have.

So he took the cat home, and went to the corner to buy some heroin. He came back, prepared a shot, and held his cat while he administered an overdose to euthanize her.

What a world. I hope he knows he did well by the cat - I can't conceive of having to do such a thing.

    $500 to euthanize a cat?

Dude shoulda used the heroin overdose on the vet instead of the cat.

Wow! It's much cheaper to buy heroin than to euthanize an animal? Unbelievable!

Even in the Tenderloin, on of the most hardcore districts in the world, there is compassion for an animal.

This is why I love San Francisco.

    Haha icon_lol.gif

But yeah, I was also pretty shocked to hear the price. Is that normal in the states?
