    Hey
I have noticed that some people are pot bellied(convex), some have really slim bellies without abs, and some people have abs, no fats but their stomach is still convex(pot-belly).
So does anybody know what workout/excercises can help make my stomach at least flat, I dont care much about exact 6 packs: 4 packs or just a flat stomach is good enough.
I have very little fat at my belly but when I feel the muscles by poking the abs with my finger it looks like the muscles are convex, that is even if i loose the fat, my stomach won't be slim(concave). Not sure though.
So should i work on the sides muscles of abdomen or some totally other thing, like i have read that talking fast and chewing gum leads to swallowing air, hence pot-belly even without actual fats icon_sad.gif

That picture is a steroid gut. Paleo diet and moderate core exercise will score you abs. http://youtu.be/nbB6PsyZE3E

Your abs do what you train them to do. If a guy has a convex abdomen, it signals either 1) that he's a power lifter and his ab work is not aesthetic and/or 2) that he's pushing outward with his stomach as he does ab motions. If you suck your abs in while you do ab motions, your body will naturally draw your abs inward.

I've never heard this before, but I'd like confirmation on this...

I heard some where by over exercising the abs you can actually just make your abs bulge more or appear bulky.

Something you need to accept, and I have come to this realization recently, is that we aren't all physically the same. genetics plays a big part in it and our muscle groups aren't always going to look the same.

A great healthy diet, like a paleo one, and a lot of cardio and core work that is dynamic and ever changing is what will get you the abs your body is capable of getting.

Try stomach vacuums. Strengthen your transversus abdominis. Too many people neglect it and don't even realize it exists. Of course, be persistent with the exercise and give it patience.

I always say, cut alcohol and useless sugars (candy, cake, cookies, etc.) oh and also Salt!!!

I would try to cut them out for a month or so and see how your body changes and then add them back in sparingly..

I think you just don't have a high LBM, you can still weight 120 lbs and not have abs and look fat. If you have muscle, it will tone out better.

This makes a lot of sense actually. I've never heard this before but when you think about it like every other muscle you train it how to act and conform.

I was intrigued enough by Larkin's insight to Google it anyway as I need big time help with my midsection. Sucking the gut IN looks like it's a principle of Pilates. What the heck, what I'M doing ain't workin'...
Do all you flat stomach/washboard types out there do this???

    http://pilates.about.com/od/pilatesmat/ss/FlatAbSeries.htm

Pilates is all about core strength. The benefits of core strength go way beyond flat abdominals, but it is the flat ab results of doing Pilates exercises that help make Pilates as popular as it is.

The secret to getting flat abs is to do the exercises correctly. That means that the abdominals have to be very pulled in. They cannot be allowed to bunch up and poof forward. When that happens, the rectus abdominis, the outermost muscle of the abdominal muscles, is getting shorter and bunching up. This might make that muscle stronger, but it will not result in balanced development, core strength, or a flat stomach (crunchers take note!). The flat abs come from the deep scoop of the abdominals, balanced by the length and breadth of the spine.

If you want abs on a Gut like the picture above do some Growth Hormone. GH causes internal organs to grow and thus they push out against the abdominal wall and boom you have the bodybuilder picture above. icon_eek.gif

Here are three things which will help:

Increase your weekly CV - you need to do a t least 150' of moderate intensity CV work every week

incorporate a core strength and stability works in your programmes twice a week

Make sure your nutrition is right - how much CHO do have a day?
