Well like I said already I've been going around the idea of closing my account here.
I feel like I need to I don't know just get out there and do something else, to be honest I don't have a clear idea on why I should close it but for some reason I think I need to do it.
Maybe just for a while, maybe for good.

So any of you guys who've done this before, why did you leave? Do you think it was good idea?

    Thanks in advance guys.

Sometimes it's fun to be here. Sometimes it's not. Simple as that.

When you closed your account, you think it helped you with whatever reason it was that you closed it?

I can't say much for here, because I just joined like 5 days ago or whatever, but on other forums I'm on, the reason why my posting ended up getting less frequent was due to either 1) lack of interest anymore; 2) found the friends I wanted to make and now just talk to them on facebook; 3) moved on to bigger and better things; 4) found myself too old and/or not liking the new people that came in (not as much in common anymore).

    overexposure.

Every so often, I feel the need to step back from the virtual networking sites and apps. Similar to wanting your privacy for a bit. This is technically my 3rd stint here on RJ.

I didn't over think it to that extent. I just did it, and then I made another one when I felt like it. I can tell you now and with 100% accuracy if you're mulling it over this much you're going to come back within a relatively short while after leaving.

I was really tryin' to give advice but everything I typed sounded really jackass-ish. So I'll just say goodluck in whatever you decide.

Sincerely though..with no negative connotation attached, if you don't feel disciplined enough to balance internet and reality...maybe stepping away is the best thing to do for now. You can always come back if you really want/when you are ready.

No no. Really that's the thing and thanks.
I feel like I need to step back from this internet thing. I've done it already with Facebook and Manhunt lol. It's just that it takes too much of your time.

There'll come a point when you do figure out the proper balance, and you'll return and make another experience out of it.

I don't know why people make such a big deal about this. I never left but spent much less time on RJ in 2012. I would stop by to read the posts and comment every now and then.

But now I'm back. Though who's to say that I won't take another leave of absence soon?

I don't know why anyone would go through the hassle of having to delete and recreate a profile, and create dramatic exit and return threads, when they can just write "Taking an indefinite RJ break" on the top of their profile to quiet the alarmists and then just walk away.

Is it no-potato chip-left-uneaten syndrome - you just have to purge temptation from your pantry or you'll eat it?

Or a desire to make a fresh start under a new identity like the recent senior Facebook name rite-of-passage phenomenon (http://long-island.newsday.com/kids/high-school-seniors-changing-facebook-names-1.4559500) where high school seniors are foiling college recruiters who troll their accounts for bad behavior?

Or is it attention whoring, plain and simple? Why even ask?

It's because of those green velvet booty shorts you made from the curtains.

Starting over 3 or more times from scratch solves nothing.

I recommend you try and wean yourself off of RJ. Log is less time per day.
Stay off the treads if you need to. Stay away for 3 days. Just don't delete your entire profile.. then come back to rebuild it 3 weeks later..

I don't regret permanently deleting my previous 2 profiles. For me that was the choice I wanted to make of them.

An RJ vacay is a better idea than a full deletion. I've taken three vacays, from just a couple of days to almost 2 weeks. It can get insipid and irritating, being on the forums depending on the interaction of personalities at the time. But it shifts, with the quality rising and ebbing.

So, just don't use it, hide the account, and see if you want to dip your toe back in the pool later. icon_biggrin.gif
