Today, someone asked me what I would take if I had to leave in a hurry or move to a different place?

I had to think and I guess it would be my lap top computer, passport. Clothing optional.icon_smile.gif

In the case of an emergency.

I would try to salvage: pictures of friends and family. Everything else can be replaced.

I would not try to save any material things.

In a case of immediate emergency, like a fire, I'd take in order as possible:

    Folders with our legal documents
Old photograph albums (most newer pics are digital)

That answers the "one or two" question. But in reality I'd also try to save:

    PDA
    Cell phone
    External HD backup
Computer itself if possible (a 1-piece iMac)
(All assuming hubby can evacuate himself. If really bad, like woke up to choking smoke, I'd try to get him out first, or I hope him me.)

If there's enough warning time, like a Florida hurricane, we'd also take as space in the cars allow:

    Clothes
    Some collectibles
Food, water, shaving kits, portable radio, flashlights and other things from our hurricane survival list.

If this were a fast departure I'd grab one hefty and run around getting the things that can't ever be replaced. Pictures, some special pieces of jewelry I rarely wear but have special meaning behind them and a few memento's. I have a box with some cash on hand I'd grab. then I'm outta there.

Hmm... my saxophones. There's two of them - and they're by far the most valuable things in my little college apartment. Everything else can be done without... unless I have to count on saving my roommate from some disaster. In that case, I'll come back for the instruments later.

My two chows. With more time - artwork, pictures, important files, laptop, rare books, depends how much time I had......minutes or hours? I once lived where a fire was coming my way in California - and I had a group of movers come work for two days loading the two trucks - packing just as though I were really moving. We packed the whole house - and then let the trucks sit there in the driveway waiting for orders to get out. The movers hung out for two days........then, thankfully - I got the word the fire was controlled - and the movers worked for two more days putting all the furniture and stuff back. What an expense!

My cell phone is linked to my computer - so all I need is my cell phone and I would take my running shoes.

My two pups. Ok, they're not really puppies since they're 3 and 3 1/2 years old respectively, but to me they'll always be my puppies. In their eyes, they still think they're puppies too. Especially when they try to both climb onto my lap at the same time. Having two 80lb German Shepherds competing for cuddles and lap space makes life fun.

So yeah, I'd save them first. I just can't see my life without them in it.

That depends on the situation in which I have to leave my home.

If it's a survival situation I would take a pocket knife and a lighter. I can survive just about anywhere with those two devices.

If it's not a survival situation, my cell phone and top would accompany me.

To be perfectly honest, I can't think of a thing.

Old pictures are irreplaceable but I wouldn't spend a moment digging for them if my life was in danger. A lot of other junk I'd miss but I could do without. Most probably in an emergency I'd spend a minute thinking about what I should grab, and then realize if I have to think that hard about it, it's nothing worth risking my life over.

I'd probably just grab my wallet and car keys, and cut the rest of it loose.

    Hmmm... maybe a sandwich?
