Hot Tub Before Swim?

I haven't swam regularly since undergrad and beginning of grad school.....ie about 3 years ago. Last week I got into the pool for the first time in months and decided to do laps. Lets just say I was winded very quickly and in embarrassment wrapped up my workout early.

Second time I went to the pool, it was packed. All lanes had people in it. I decided to sit in the hot tub until a lane was opened. Needless to say, my swim that day was a little better than the first.

Today, I swam again for the third time. Really packed lanes (2-3 per lane). Again, I sat in the hot tub until a lane opened with just one other swimmer in it.

Maybe I'm just getting back into the groove of things, or maybe its the hot tub warming my muscles up before I swim but I destroyed my first swim and even my second one.

Thoughts on hot tubbing before a swim? And after of course.

I only do it when waiting for a lane as well. It's not a bad idea.. definitely relaxes your muscles but honestly its probably just your body getting used to swimming again. I feel that it's like riding a bike, your muscles get back into it pretty quickly.

A friend of mine who's primary exercise is swimming, always starts in the hot tub. Perhaps you stay too long.

I doubt your problem is the tub but rather, you haven't swam in 3 years. I swim and after getting skipping the pool for 2 months, I noticed a big difference in cardiovascular strength. I had to quit after 20 laps but the more I got into it, the more laps I can do and less tired I felt.

So just keep at it to gain your strength back and go at your pace. You'll be swimming 1 to 2 miles in no time.

You're just getting back into your workouts after being off for awhile. Sounds like you'll be back in form soon. As for hot tubs, jacuzzis (and even cold plunges) they're good for you. I played H20-polo & those were a part of our workouts - before or after.

A public hot tub is a bad idea in this drug oriented culture . Your skin is the largest excretory organ of the body but it is able to absorb as well. Hot tub only where the water is filled and drained for one occupant and brush the tub in between. Sauna or steam is safer.

I think you guys might've misread what I meant. Destroyed is a good thing. I was doing better. Haha. But thanks for your help.
