    WTF?
Modern pentathlon has 5 sports that are already represented well...would have been my first choice.

No one cares. The olympics have become all about pedophiles watching girl gymnastics and commercials selling chemicals and clothing to obese people. I don't know a single person who actually watches the olympics at all. Plus, really, who wants to watch sweaty, fit, strong, sexy men in barely any clothes wrestling each other in slow motion?

    WHAT THE HELL!!!!

They should not be allowed to vote out one of the oldest sports of the Olympics!!!

Wrestling is an ageless sport that embodies pure strength and skill!

Bad, bad decision. I can't say I'm a fan of wrestling, but it has historical significance dating back to the ancient Olympics. synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, golf, tennis, and anything that includes a horse should go before wrestling.

If the games are to be called the Olympics, then original ancient Greek sporting events should be included. Wrestling is one of them. A very strange decision, that I suspect reflects economic pressure from sponsors. Nobody makes big money from classic wrestling, but other sports have considerable potential.

I enjoyed one of the comments to that article at the link:

"Spartacus, Crixus and Gannicus should kill the IOC for this travesty."

    Thumbs up!icon_evil.gif

thats BS, Wrestling is a great sport!
those who knock it need to try it and see how long they would last against someone of equal weight, see how long it takes to get their butt kicked that is.

Perhaps it's seen as being too gay?

I can't believe one of the oldest and most difficult sports in the world is being dropped from the Olympics. It makes no sense when other events like badminton, beach volleyball, driving, golf, sailing, table tennis and curling are viewed as being worthy of the Olympics.

As a former competitive collegiate wrestler, I think this is a TRAVESTY of immeasurable proportion!!! I'm also a tae-kwon-do black belt, first dan (and I love it with a passion), but I would have voted TKD out and wrestling in if I were the deciding vote.

So the IOC wants to get rid wrestling, of one of the original Olympic sports, but feels fine with keeping Olympic Desperate Walk to the Toilet?

does anybody here really think modern day olympics have any corellation to the ancient games?

they're a staged event to sell commercial time around, and the athletes are just competing for endorsement deals.

only 3 sports get any primetime coverage, swimming, beach vollyball, and gymnastics, because those are the sports with the highest ratings. all the other sports are recapped in highlight reels on espn7 or online somewhere that nobody watches.

i'd be all for returning the games to the classical competition it was in the very beginning, and rumor has it they competed nude back then. as the gods intended.

lol @ the numbskullery; wrestling was Olympic from the get-go and was deliberately there to connect the Olympics to its 1500 year-haitused predecessor.

I'm shocked. As many on this thread have hit on, it's become blatantly obvious that the Olympics are about nothing but ratings.

Olympic Taekwondo is an athletic sport. It's adapted over the years since it got accepted into the IOC so that it's more fair and safer. However it requires flexibility, stamina, endurance, accuracy and mental concentration. It's much more of a sport than something like using a gun
