The Kentucky AD is making rumblings that if Tubby doesn't replace his assistants with better recruiters, he himself may be replaced.

Is this "good-ole boy" Southern racism or is the lack of confidence justified?

Tubby won it all in his first year in '98, but hasn't gotten the Wildcats back to the Final 4 since - the longest drought in Kentucky history.

Personally I love Tubby, but Kentucky is not the college powerhouse they once were and Florida's rise to prominence is really not sitting well with the Big Blue Boosters in Lexington ....

Justified? Of course. Plain and simple, Tubby just doesn't recruit like he coaches. One of the best with x's and o's, he falls way short of that on the recruiting trail. Kentucky used to be a program that you could guarantee to be a regular right alongside Duke and N Carolina. College sports are in the business of winning, and to be an 8 seed isn't exactly acceptable to Kentucky standards.
By the way...Tubby had success early because he coaches someone else's recruits. Not his own.

Good point about him coaches prior recruits to the NC in '98 RockChalk...

I still think the pressure's a little unwarranted. Don't think Roy's job would be in jeopardy at UNC if he had an 8-year Final 4 drought.

Curious thing is WHY can't Tubby get the top recruits? Kentucky has great facilities and any parent has got to love the thought of having him coach their kids.

some coaches just don't have it when it comes to recruiting. They just don't give off the right vibe, which is why I really think he needs to replace his top recruiter.
Roy wouldn't be in that position. LOL He's one of the best recruiters in the game.

Roy is a great recruiter, but many coaches go through bad years and with the kids leaving to the NBA, what looked like a good class can become not so good (see Duke this year, where Deng would have been a senior and Livingston a Junior if they had come/stayed in school).

Still, KU should be on every great high school player's short list and Tubby's a great coach. He recruited in Georgia, so Kentucky should be easy for him. I think a change in his assistant coaches is needed, but I understand his loyalty. Coach K could use the same thing at Duke, but he won't make a change until someone hires away Wojo or Chris Collins for a head coaching job (I'm BEGGING All AD's around the country to PLEASE offer Chris Collins a head coaching job!!!!!).

Roy Williams is one of the best recruiters ever...look at his track record. Fans are spoiled by success, and Kentucky has that rich history, so nothing less than 28 wins isn't enough. Look at Nebraska football...9-3 got Solich fired because of that same kind of mentality. Was Ashley Judd at the game in Chicago yesterday?
