AFAA or ACE

I am looking to get certified for personal training. First it was suggested to me that I should look into AFAA. This is from a friend who just go book camp instructor certification. So I would consider him a reliable source. Not long after he mentioned AFAA, a personal trainer told me that he was ACE certified and that I should check into it.

Does anyone know if either of the two are more credible and/or more accepted by potential employers? Or does it really matter which one?

    Thank you in advance.

I'm currently working with NASM, but I am hoping to get at least one more.

Never heard of that one, but I am a complete noob when it comes to this field. I do think multiple certification is a smart idea. Just not sure where to start.

Usually, it's best to go and ask potential employers. If you know of a gym that is hiring and you'd like to work for them, go there and ask what certifications they accept. After you've had a few hundred client hours, work experience (and clients you bring with you) are more important than the certification, anyway.

asking potential employers is actually already on my list in this fact-finding (for lack of a better word) mission but thank you for the suggestion. And I figured as much on the last part. icon_smile.gif

NASM is one of the most widely recognized, and held in very high regard. ISSA is another choice.

I had always viewed ACE as the answer, but I've heard more positive comments about NASM of late. If you like ACE, I'd continue down that road.. get input from several PT's in your area and ask questions.. also evaluate costs.

Cool, thanks guys. Definitely going to check into NASM and ISSA. I am really excited about this next venture in my life and I want to start it right. Now in regards to the cost of getting certified, looks like either ISSA and ACE is going to cost the least which is kind of important to me right now.
