First of all - there were no borders at that time and the Native Americans didn't own ALL the land in North America.

Second of all - The natives were also killing each other so they weren't really peaceful with other tribes.

Third of all - We aren't the only country to take land away from the natives. Look at how the Arabs stole all of North Africa from the Berbers, the Chinese and Tibet and Western "East Turkestan", the Russians and parts of Tataristan/Dagestan/Chechnya, Israel/Palestine, the Dutch and South Africa, the Turks and Constantinople, the Spanish and Portuguese and South America.

There's a huge list which means EVERYONE LIVES ON STOLEN LAND.

These people need to get over what happened hundreds of years ago. We live in a society of law today. We have rules and regulations we must follow to live in a productive society. That is why borders are important and immigration must be handled accordingly. If it's ok to invite millions of illegal immigrants into this country, why not invite hundreds of strangers into your house and let them leech off your resources.

This country was founded by immigrants. Immigration energizes the nation. Immigrants do not leech off the government. In study after study it has been shown that immigrants contribute more to the economy than the benefits they supposedly take.

Who do you mean by "these people"?

Quote on the Statue of Liberty about give me your poor, your homeless. etc.?

No one invites illegals, as far as I know.

Anyone here on RJ who des not have some immigrant ancestor to this country?

Well, this thread is guaranteed to become a giant clusterfuck. Conservatives will share their claims that the country is being weakened by immigration, despite ignoring that the country was founded on immigrants. Liberals will be overly and ridiculous apologetic of the USDA for "correctly" calling Pilgrims "illegal aliens" while ignoring that Native American tribes did not have any immigration laws or policies in place. Both sides will scream and shout and proclaim the other side is wrong. No middle ground will be found because, quite frankly, people are more interested in being right than thoughtfully considering the views of the other side.

Your logic is so flawed I don't even know where to begin.

Wow. This is a huge scandal. $200,000 for training seminars and a video for sensitivity training? I can see how you'd be incensed by that, Riddler. After all, our government agencies have always been staffed by racially diverse, sensitive and politically correct personnel. Why, just being hired/appointed virtually assures that they've been completely educated and vetted for their jobs by politically neutral, secular AND faith-based diverse panels.

I know the solution. We should outsource our diversity training to Hong Kong, Manila and Mumbai call centers. We all know how much cheaper they could do that job, am I right?

Nah - actually I firmly and strongly believe that any thriving economy needs an immigration policy that works. And indeed - most studies do suggest that immigration is a significant net positive especially over time (in the short term it does tend to cost more). Immigration policy is a complicated one - but a good first step is the entrepreneur visa that is working its way through Congress (that originally had support on both sides of the party before, but the Obama Administration decided not to proceed with it until all of immigration reform was taken care of which I think was a huge mistake). With respect to this particular article, I think the consultant goes a step way too far from sensitivity to absurd advocacy. From the article:

In another clip, Betances attempted to dispel the stigma of illegal immigrants by calling the Pilgrims illegal aliens.

“I want you to say that America was founded by outsiders – say that – who are today’s insiders, who are very nervous about today’s outsiders,” he said in the clip.

“I want you to say, ‘The Pilgrims were illegal aliens,’” he continued. “Say, ‘The Pilgrims never gave their passports to the Indians.’”

Throughout the session, Betances had the employees shout “Bam!” to reinforce his points.

The man is a buffoon. I just thought it was funny.

I've never heard a conservative or anybody else claim that the country is or has been weakened by immigration.

Dude sounds like the typical corporate motivational bloviator. I was once forced by management to sit through a day of yelling, intimidation and terrible jokes by a fellow who had been hired to tell us all that discrimination based on sex was bad for business. He made us, each and all, to vocally agree with everything he said and hammered away at it for hours. By the end of the ordeal we were limp. The basic point was essentially undebatable and the presentation was verbal torture.

"Bam!" indeed. I think this guy may have had too much hot sauce.

"I want you to say..." Sounds like classic brainwashing- if you can say it, and it is repeated over and over, you begin to believe it. AND, FYI, an IMMIGRANT is someone in a country that went through proper procedures to get into that country. We don't need immigration 'reform'..Immigration is just fine for the million or so per year that FOLLOW the laws and regulations. ILLEGAL ALIENS are in the US, well, illegally! If you are okay with that, what other laws are you in favor of ignoring ? And/or rewarding those who violate the laws we have..scary precedent...

That is a good point, however immigration into the US needs to be restricted because we have enough people to take care of. It is time that other countries started taking better and more proper care of their people. It is time that these poorer countries learn why the US and other first world countries are successful, prosperous places and follow our lead. The whole world cannot simply be in the US.
