The republicans namely the Dottering Jon McCain .... and the sorry to say Friend of Dorothy Lindsey Graham have voted to deny cloture on Chuck Hagel as Obama's Cabinet Nominee

Nevermind that it was never done before
Nevermind that he is a republican ..... more on that later because it has loads to do with why
But they even came out and said they they will vote for him anyway when the Senate resumes session in 10 days

Umm.... Earth to republicans? .... This is why you lost so badly in the last election
and thuis is why the Legislative Branch of our government has the popularity of Strep Throat

..... But today Jon McCain playing himself as Crotchety Old man .... said that it was pay back because Hagel went against Bush and called him on the Iraq War

    Whoa...... icon_eek.gif

Unprecedented? Hardly - are you that blinded with rage or is it just ignorance? Here's just one - there are more elsewhere

The damn Republicans have REALLY gone off the deep end.
Part of their job is to approve or reject the President's Cabinet nominees.
The Republicans KNOW that there are enough votes to confirm Hagel.
They're just being assholes, because they think it makes President Obama look bad.
But, they're only guaranteeing that they'll lose their majority in the House of Representatives, in 2014.

Having a Secretary of Defense is more than a little important and necessary.

It's rare that Republicans admit to this level of pettiness.. but that's exactly what McCain did when he admitted on camera that this is a personal grudge that Republicans have against Hagel for opposing the Iraq war and opposing Bush's lies and incompetence.

It has nothing to do with Hagel's qualifications... he is a decorated war veteran. If the GOP obstructionists have evidence that he is not qualified, where is it? Put up or shut up, losers.

After the dust has settled and the cranky old white men have had their hissy fit, Hagel will be approved and the Republicans will be patting themselves on the back, thinking they've somehow "won" something.

And what have you won, boys? I can tell you it won't be any national elections in the near future, because you just keep digging yourselves deeper.

Hagel does have a point though- those DAMN JEWS and their lobby are the root of all evil! Give em hell Chucky- you senile old goat.

"Part of their [Republicans] job is to approve or reject the President's Cabinet nominees" Advise and consent of the Senate- true, but IF the Dems had enough support for this terrible nominee, they could have enough votes (60) for cloture- but they don't. Regardless, the moron will be the next SecDef..happy now?

And as far as his views on gays, recently allowed in the US Military, NewYorker.com states: "When Hagel served in the United States Senate, as a Republican from Nebraska, he consistently voted against gay rights—his record earned him a zero-per-cent rating (three times) from the Human Rights Campaign, the leading gay-rights lobby." Thats ZERO % from HRC- but hey, Obama nominated him, THE LEADER IS GOOD, THE LEADER IS GREAT...

GQjock must be readin Wiki himself: "The Ambassador to the United Nations is not a member of the United States Cabinet, but the position is frequently accorded cabinet-level rank. ... It was not a cabinet-level position under the George W. Bush administration (from 2001 to 2009).[1][2] but was once again elevated under the Obama administration." People like YOU can input that info- in fact, sounds kinda like you did...

I'm just happy I'll never have to salute this homophobic anti-Semite; Stand proud 'Merica!

There could not be a filibuster, because that old queen, Mitchy McConnell made a promise to not abuse the filibuster. Remember?
He and super old and stupid Harry Reid shook hands and made all sorts of cute little promises. No way this is a filibuster, because republicans never lie, especially to democrats.
No this is not a filibuster. It's just republicans saying that if they do not get their way, they would not allow Hagel's nomination to move forward. That is just something called something close to a filibuster, but probably different, because Mitchy McConnell is not the type who would lie.
    No way.

If the situation were reversed, the left would be praising the fillibuster. icon_neutral.gif

Except in the history of this country, it has never been abused as it has been by this group of shady republicans, so your banal response is useless.

Doesn't change it, just makes it irrelevant.

Irrelevant how? It's ok when the left uses any means necessary to achieve it's ends, but when the right attempts the same thing, it's automatically a sin? Consistency and fairness obviously isn't a concern of yours. It never occurs to you that the opposite side might think it's right.

    Wait .... this just in

The unprecedented filibustering of a Cabinet nominee was done for a very specific reason
It seems our esteemed small circle of republican elected officials were trying to save us from a man who made speeches and gave money to a group called

    FRIENDS of HAMAS
