Encyclopedias define the term jock as a classic North American stereotype of a male athlete. "Jock" may also mean musclebrain and the similar term musclehead. The jock stereotype is used often in the mass media to portray a relatively unintelligent and unenlightened, but nonetheless physically and socially well endowed character.

What's your definition of a jock? Can you be a jock without playing any type of sports? Can you be a jock and still be intelligent and enlightened? What criteria do YOU have to call a person a jock?

    Your thoughts?

To be a "jock" you should be participating in some form of athletics, period!!! Weight Training counts to a certain extent, however if that's all YOU do & it's MOSTLY just for aesthetics, then THAT doesn't count!!!

Yeah, a jock's a guy with an athletic focus, and the body to prove it. The brain may or may not be musclebound; I judge each man as I find him. And my preference is for body AND brain.

I think "jock" is losing the negative connotation that it originally had. I hear people referring to themselves as "jock" and they're proud of it. And why shouldn't they be? They are athletic and take care of their bodies. As long as "jock" isn't a synonym for "box of rocks," it's all good. icon_smile.gif
