    Arrogant? Hardly.

She's thoughtful and honest about some harsh truths. Many people in the "race" threads would swear she is lying, though.

another member posted this video up earlier during the month.

At first it came of as slight strange I thought it was just another model trying to convince young girls why they should not join modeling so that they could extend their career and knock out the competition early. Then she went deeper and deeper into the conversation and I commended her. Not many models take that kind of risk putting themselves out their like that, and it's true she actually did make really valid points.

I think it was an inspiring message, because you have so many young women and even men caught up in the idea of being picture perfect 24/7. Image is a big thing, regardless if you want it to be or not.

She simply spoke the harsh truth that alot of people know but won't admit to themselves. She may have come of arrogant to some or even like I originally thought as another model trying to condemn and crush younger people before they attempt to try, though this doesn't seem to be the case.

and that was my 2 cents...which is a bit longer than I thought :/

She isn't lying and I ain't mad at her. Truth be told there are a lot of people who probably fit the mindset that she's talking about. And its not just modeling. It is most media. When is the last time you saw a woman of color as the lead or romantic interest in a TV show or movie not targeted to her minority community? I can only think of Scandal and maybe Ugly Betty. But that's about it. It doesn't happen often because the standard of beauty here is white regardless of what some brainwashed liberals like to put out there.

Neither, she's making the point that she lives in society that puts people that look like her on a pedestal. She is tall, in an industry that favors height. She is young, in a culture that favors youth. And, she is white, in a world that favors white skin. Essentially, she's is taking accountability for the white privilege she receives and how it perpetuates an idea of beauty that is not inclusive of other races and ethnicities.

She's also highlighting the superficiality of modeling. By saying that these aren't images of her; these are images the industry wants to maintain.

She right. Society is set up in away to reinforce that white is only beautiful. Hence you see so many Asian girls with white guys, so many dark skinned guys with white girls. It's reinforced in all their minds that white is beautiful. Unfortunately the people running the fashion industry are toxic narrow minded people which translates into their narrow minded vision.

This reaction is pretty consistent to that on race threads where guys seem to equate non-white with other "valid" turn-offs such as obesity and bad teeth.

As a counterpoint to Cameron Russell's TedTalks speech, one should watch Lizzie Valesquez's TedTalk speech, deemed "the ugliest woman in the world", she has a non-terminal form of progeria.....Or Sam Bern's TedTalks speech, who has progeria.....

She does have a point, but even if "For the past few centuries we have defined beauty [...] as tall, slender figures, femininity and white skin", that really hasn't stopped the short, curvy, olive-skinned Kim Kardashian from becoming the It girl of this era.

You wanna know the real reason why the fashion industry is full of white women? Because the vast majority of women who buy these high-end products are WHITE. The richest people in the world are in Europe and white models can showcase what these products look like on white people. It's all about appealing to the highest bidder.

And it's not always white people's fault. What about Naomi Campbell, who worked very, very hard to clear the European runways of younger black models (eg. Tyra Banks, who retreated back to the states) in the 1990s? She couldn't stand the idea of sharing the limelight with other women of colour. But these days she's over the hill and hypocritically complaining about the lack of colour in fashion magazines. Sometimes people of colour are their own worst enemy.
