Stan24 saidalthough Italians are descended from Romans who spoke Latin, the word Latin comes from the king Latinus, king of the Latins
so Italians are Latino.....in a way
Nope. Bullshit. Sorry.
From Wikipedia: 'Hispanic and Latino Americans refers to an ethnolinguistic group in the United States with origins in the countries of Latin America and the Iberian peninsula consisting of Spain and Portugal and in general all persons in the United States who self-identify as Hispanic or Latino.'
I can't help but find it weird that we're all clumped together by the US government as the same people just because we have ancestors that come from Spanish or Portuguese-speaking countries
Never understood why we need our own term, Especially since there are 20+ counties where Spanish and Portuguese are dominant languages; each culturally very different from the one another.
Then you got those pesky Spaniards who don't want to be called "Latino" because they see themselves as white as any other European folk. They generally save the term "Latino" for people from Latin America.
These labels really suck ass, yo.
