    Predictable.

    http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/blog/techflash/2013/02/states-collect-amazon-tax-but-not-as.html

States like California have begun collecting taxes on online sales, dubbed the "Amazon tax," but those taxes aren't as much as originally expected.

Reuters reports California collected $96.4 million in online sales taxes in the latest quarter, but a previous study indicated the state would collect a total of nearly $2 billion in 2012 online sales taxes. Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) currently collects sales tax in nine states including California, and will add seven more in the next year, and there's a good chance Congress will enact a national sales tax plan this year.

I wunder how a national sales tax could happen since so many previous posters indicated barack will only hike taxes on millionaires.

They effectively raised amazon's prices by almost 10%. Of course sales declined, especially in this economy. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm still waiting for the tax to come to amazon purchases in IL.

doesn't Illinois already has some kind of Voluntary reporting and paying internet sales tax?

are they kidding? who would pay that ?

Remeber this is the state where most politicians and public officials go to jail for fraud and extortion.

If we're all to suffer the pain of taxes, we should all have a reasonable amount to pay in relation to how much money we make. If the goverenment wants more of the money, they should add benefit to giving more of your money, instead of penalizing people for having more. Positive reinforcement.

i'd be totally in favour of the US adopting a VAT tax.

national sales tax is coming anyway, there's no avoiding it.

i mean if the world is flat, the US certainly is. buying stuff in another state to avoid taxes is like living in the balkans.

I love how people want their social programs, public maintenance, and security, yet are totally unwilling to pay fr it.
