    he's baaaaack....with the sequel.

as much as the last commercial drove me insane with overplay, I have to give him credit for creativity, it's well done and amusing, and i still find him atypically appealing. He's making me entirely rethink canadians

his film production company must be valued at a billion by now with number of times that first commercial ran.

If the FCC requires them to adhere to truth in advertising I'm guessing the 3rd installment will go something like: "survived a heart attack, went through kidney dialysis, and got a liver transplant, all without anesthetic!"

yourname2000 saidNo sir....lumberjacks are damn sexy. There's a lumberjack festival and contest annually in Canada and the competitors are pure fuckin' sex.

Wow, I can't remember the last time we had a timber carnival around here. Now we have "eco-challenges" and shit like that icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, there's plenty of wood to cut, split, tote, and stack on my place if anyone is interested.

For a long time, I thought it was supposed to be "ego-challenge" based on the number of pretentious douchebags that come to town for it.

yourname2000 saidHahaha --it's a cold weather thing. Long Johns/long underwear are hella-warm....I can't imagine the hell it would be to wear those in LA, lol.

hey it gets cold here too, i can think of alot of nights where it would be awesome to suit up in a union suit ( becuz it's union made? ) with your partner and have fun all night.

they have alot of access panels with buttons etc.

I like it better than the first ad. He looks better with longer hair and the tone is less douchy.

Wait a second. He didn't create these commercials, nor did he create 5 Hour Energy drink. The advertising concept and script was created in-house by Living Essentials' ad team (based out of Michigan, not Canada).

i think everybody's aware he didn't invent the drink.

i don't know any specifics on how the ad came about, but his tweets and comments on his company's website led me to believe he was more involved in the creation of it than just a hired actor, but it's not featured in their portfolio it just seems a lot more creative and ambitious in production than any other 5 hour energy drink ad, even other ads running currently.

in any event i'd like to interview him personally to get the backstory on how this all came together.

While Living Essentials (LE) does rely heavily on social media and hungry ad and mktg. start-ups, High Rise didn't create these commercials. I read an article about LE in either Ad Age or AdWeek (more about false ad claims than showcasing LE's success). In that story, the reporter addressed LE's in-house ad team. The concept and script came from them, not High Rise Studio.

I'd luv to read the article if you can locate it.

maybe i'll have to write high rise and get his version. at any rate this had to direct alot of attention to his company , and unless Matthew did the commercials for no fee, he's much richer now than he was 2 mos ago.

well it looks like 5 hour's "in house ad team" uses alot of outside content: they get videos from Commercial project contestants with original ideas, formulated around a corporate directed theme.. and i'm almost sure i read that's how high rise and Matthew got that commercial on the air.

5 hour solicits submissions from anybody and according to this article "they sent the videos they purchased straight to TV". and High Rise would have the capability to submit broadcast ready video. a slam dunk.

    http://www.onlinevideocontests.com/contest/4695

they pay $7500 for exclusive rights, and that's why you see the commercial non stop.

I'm sticking by my original impression that these two commercials are an original High Rise Studio concept, and production, submitted through the 5 Hour energy video contest.
