Girls (mostly) who say "that's funny" instead of laughing.

Girl at work says "that's funny," so much it's noticeable and odd. It makes me not want to talk anymore because I know she doesn't think my shit is funny or she'd actually laugh.

Damn. I am this girl icon_sad.gif
For me, when I say it I am really being honest. I am laughing in my head. It just doesn't come out that way. I had a friend from South Africa say, "what's with you Americans? You're always intellectualizing your humor?"

I said, "What do you mean?"

She said, "You always say 'that's funny' instead of just laughing!!!"

And I said, "Ha. That's funny."

    ;)

EDIT: Fuck, I just watched the clip. I am so that girl.

How about people on cam that aren't using mic and if they find something funny they'd be like "HAHAHAHA LMAO" but if you look at them on cam they're keeping a straight face icon_neutral.gificon_neutral.gif

    Like.. What's up with that!

i so do this all the time!!! Mostly, to be polite, usually at work as well, cuz to be honest, my co-workers are typically middle-aged married women with children and what they think is humorous and funny......to me, is usually NOT.... so I say "omg, thats so funny!" but cant force a fake laugh! I cant do it anymore, the whole fake-laughing thing. It drains me to no end, ugh.

Or I say "thats crazy" if im bored or only half-way listening to someone. It's kind of a bad habit.

Yeah, that bugs me too and that Scrubs episode nailed it.. Laughter is one of those responses where its supposed to be involuntary, mostly uncontrollable. That's why fake laughs are so terrible. Not all things that are comical will move me to laughter but I have responses for those things too. If someone tells a corny joke: I just shake my head with a smirk or sometimes I'll say"booooo" and grin.

PS: I have thing for both Zach Braff and Donald Faison.

Yes this is a similar situation. I have trouble getting along with my heterosexual counterparts with monogamous relationships at work who have bought houses already at my age. I guess I find them boring right now, yet I am also mad because I think I want what they have with the right person (emphasize think).

That's just her insecurity that she has a bad looking mouth when she laughs, or a bad laugh, or bad teeth, or bad breath or....who knows? She isn't being mean or humorless or anything to do with YOU. Give her a break and realize she's trying to make conversation. She's just extremely inhibited. She needs the friendship and of a kind man. If she ever breaks into some god-awful snort laugh, grab her around the neck and love up on her and make her feel you're the best guy ever.
