Why do people care about a governing pope to rule over their lives? Do people really lack a lot of belief in themselves to do the right thing if there's no pope? And when people get a pope, they make the pope approve their desires (e.g., gay marriage, condom usage, etc). It seems people want someone who can approve of their desires without holding themselves responsible for these desires. Oh, the humanity! XD

I was a devout Catholic until I turned 18, and was raised to follow the Pope's teachings. I was even an altar boy for a few years (and NOPE, I did not get molested by priests -- I guess, I wasn't hot enough for them? )

In the immortal words of former Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz (under Gerald Ford, I believe)--"He no playa the game, he no maka the rules"

Yeah, I'm kinda tired of Carole Pope. She hasn't done anything in YEARS.

Some reasons this "Pope stuff" might interest us:

    - It's good theatre.
    - The anti-gay Catholic Church appears to be getting a PR drubbing through this current Papal transition.
    - It's causing the public to revisit the Church's sexual scandals, which the Church would like to be forgotten.
    - It seems to be causing new sexual allegations to be surfacing.
    - A weakened Church with reduced moral authority may be less effective at pushing for anti-gay legislation in the US, as it has been doing recently.
    - There is a chance the next Pope will be at least as homophobic as the last one, perhaps even more so. It always helps to know your enemy.

Awwww... Thanks. I'd take that as a compliment! But yeah, not being one of the "it" altar boys (who got most of the priests' attention) definitely affected my self-esteem at an early age. icon_sad.gif

Me too. I guess I was butt ugly. I was the most unluckiest of gay altar boys. I served under (no pun intended) no less than five priests and not a one expressed any interest. In fact in the history of our church parish there was never a hint of sexual misconduct by any of our priests with children. Just my luck I missed out on the Catholic Church sex scandal lottery.

I'm sick that the Vatican decided to shield Palpatine from any prosecution over the sexual abuse cover ups. If he had any moral decency, he would surrender himself for questioning...at least.
