Political chances at what? Are you talking federal position as in POTUS? If so, Jeb Bush doesn't stand a chance in Hell.

Her old fashioned submission to the GOP must be one of the pleasantries of being a high figure in society. Maybe she's trying to teach us something, by showing us Republicans will flip-flop on their beliefs, and inevitably show Gays to be an American Class to be overlooked. Despicable old bitch.

Mrs Bush never endorsed or meet with the RFMC group. They used an interview of Mrs Bush from the news and ran it as an endorement -- without her knowledge and approval.

She's a kind person - she said, I was good looking:-)

Laura Bush is walking back her endorsement of marriage so as not to spoil Jeb's political chances. Yes, the GOP is so fucked up that they would hold his sister-in-law's views against him. She knows this; hence the walkback.

Well, the left is so fucked up that they would be all too willing to hold W's views against Jeb and George P.

Any statement made by a public figure in a public forum is fair game for a non-profit organization. The fact that she was pulled from the ad without hesitation says a lot more about the high integrity of the civil rights group than it does for the wife of mass murderer, G.W. Bush.

Uhm, Jeb supported most of his brother's policies while this country was being run into the ground and the U.S. Constitution stomped upon.

The U.S.A. ... the world will be suffering the ill effects of the G.W.Bush administration for decades to come. Why would anyone with a brain be willing to give Jeb the opportunity to land the finishing blow?

    Two words: they won't!

I don't claim to know much about American politics or Mrs Bush.... but wow. That letter was just perfect in my opinion, loved how he came across. So yes it's an opinion from a " nobody".... but he was brave enough to say something in his personal capacity. I'm impressed :-) happy Sunday rjers

This is exactly what the entire country needs to hear about. This wonderful, brave man expressed so eloquently why we need marriage equality. We should all be proud of him and his partner, all the best for him and his beautiful family.

Exactly! Laura Bush has spoken out in favor of Gay Marriage many times. That does not give an organization carte´blanche to use interviews as an endorsement without her approval. She did not reverse her stance on the issue, but merely took a stand on her likeness being used without her permission. There's a difference. The group should have asked the former first lady permission first.

I have heard positive remarks from Mrs. Bush on gay marriage. It would seem inconsistent to say the least.. or even hyprocritical.. certainly should have received approval for sure, but the whole thing sounds pretty odd.

The bottom line is, she was not asked to use her image in this message. It's not like she was asked and then said yes and then changed her mind once the commercial came out.

Another thing for all of you, who say Bush is an evil person do your research. Bush to date, has done more for AIDS and HIV research than any other USA president in history.

I think it's really as simple as the principle of the thing. Laura Bush isn't just any private citizen, she's a former First Lady, a very public figure, and you just don't go using her likeness without obtaining the proper permission and clearance. You have to draw the line on all such activity, otherwise various groups could just be using her likeness to promote whatever they want. That's not the way it's done, and the group should have known better. Had they gone through the proper channels and protocol, this likely would not have ever been an issue. Of course, now the liberal media will take this ball and run with it, trying to paint this in a negative light as if Laura Bush has withdrawn her support for Gay Marriage -- she hasn't -- or that this somehow has something to do with Jeb Bush running for President in 2016 -- it doesn't.

I agree, But his family thinks he does. You can't really expect them to admit to themselves that their very name is permanently toxic, can you?

It isn't just the left. I know it's hard to admit, but the Bush name is poison to conservatives too.

Far from it at least to me.

It would be a tough choice, however, between Rubio, Christy and Bush for me come 2016

I would so take that bet.
There is a long long line of legal precedent that says that anything a public figure says or does, including photos, etc., are fair use. Photos and films may be copyrighted by their creators (news network, individual photographer) but the persons depicted within have no say over their use.

The law makes the distinction too that private figures historically do have some rights.

HIghest approval rating ever for a FL governor and lots and lots of lefty NY Jews in FL. Someone might know sumthin you don't so by all means, keep laughing.

"Jeb Bush was the first Republican to win a second term as Florida’s governor, and he left office with a 60% approval rating.[1] "

    [amusing video]

You should see what the rightists on places like freerepublic.com have to say ab out anyone named Bush. RINO is the nicest of the epithets.

By the way, I wasn't commenting on Jeb's fitness to run. Although I am no fan of the Bush family, I feel a little sorry that his brother essentially destroyed the brand through no fault of Jeb's.

We disagree on that premise. And true, Jeb is a bit on the liberal side, but 2016 is a long ways off. Lots can and will change.
