Loosening biceps and triceps after shoulder injury

I had a significant shoulder injury and after surgery, my shoulder was immobilized for 6 weeks, and then slow PT for a few months thereafter. I'm fairly mobile now, but my biceps and triceps are really, really tight.

What have you all done to loosen up the scar tissue and stretch them? I actually have shoulder pain when my shoulders are fully extended due to the rightness of the muscles, and the massage therapist and PT person says my biceps and triceps feel "ropey."

I've used, albeit awkwardly, a lacrosse ball. Pain in the, err... arm? icon_biggrin.gif

Helpful hints on loosening up these muscles is greatly appreciated.

Will time + stretching eventually loosen them up?

I'm no expert, but it seems logical that they'll go back to normal pretty soon if you keep stretching.

Light work with light dumbbells and plenty of stretching....

Your PT should be prescribing some activity to get the arm back to normal if possible..

What was the injury RC ?

Massage, heat packs and getting extra blood flow to the muscle are all helpful..

The stretching is the hard part because I feel as if I'm going to tear it again! it was a labral tear.

The heat may work to release it; I've been given ice actually. icon_mad.gif
