Worst Airline Flights

    I'm glad I was not on this flight. I would have wanted double bonus miles! Check out this takeoff in horrible weather conditions on a Russian airline(Aeroflot?)

    I think the one with the larva falling from the ceiling mid flight would be a worse flight.

    Didn't see anything unusual there. Some of those old 727 flights took every inch of the runway to get up.

    Just seemed like a really long trip down the runway. Otherwise, there wasn't anything unusual.

    actually what was unusual about that flight was that every other flight was grounded at the time and yet Aeroflot's pilots decided to take off anyways.

    They took off during a severe storm. It may have even been a typhoon? I forget the specifics but I remember a big uproar about Aeroflot's safety when that video first came out a few years ago... even though I think Aeroflot's safety has been in question for decades?

    That's was a massively rough takeoff.
    Watching the ailerons move to such extremes and so rapidly meant the autopilot struggled to keep the plane level.

    Go back and watch the erratic movements of the ailerons in the wing and that shows how rough the flight was and how hard the auto pilot was working.
    Start watching the swings in the ailerons around the :50 second mark.

    I would not want to be in that flight.

    it was so bad that the spoilerons were used to keep the plane from flipping over during its takeoff run. They also increase the drag and that's why the aircraft used so much runway and then they were retracted at lift off - if they hadn't been retracted the aircraft would probably have crashed.

    I don't see the big deal. It was raining, and.....

    My last flight was seriously the worst airline flight ever. I sat on the window next to a 500+ lb man, who was literally spilling out of his seat. I think they have rules that you have to fit in between the armrests, but they don't seem to account for the fact that fat is maleable, and people can cram themselves in between armrests and still be way to large. I felt like a pancake for 4 hours, pressed up against the window like a garfield window doll. I wanted to kill myself by the end. I feel like, if you have to ask for a seat belt extender, you should be forced to buy a second seat. Obviously morbid obesity is sometimes not that person's fault and shouldn't be used to discriminate, but if you're too large for the seat, that's just the reality. The airline should breach the issue automatically, not wait until a passenger passes out from asphyxiation.

    Whew, I've needed to rant on that for 2 weeks now.

    Although the "salad dodgers" are always annoying, I've been on one flight that got struck by lightning (big flash and it was fine) and once coming to land, we were flying through a severe storm - the pilot decided to abort the landing and go around to try again. I looked over at this chap sitting on my row who looked rather nervous and said ""Don't worry, i'm sure the pilot knows what he's doing" ... at which point he shot me a withering look and said "I'm a commercial pilot, i know what this guy is trying!!

    LOL!

    I've designed for lightning protection in aircraft audio equipment. We anticipate *lots* of strikes.

    I'm a commercial pilot. Most commercial pilots are idiots, and have no business in the cockpit. For that reason, I get scared shitless riding in the back. icon_lol.gif

    I concur. I've been in take offs where the weather was bad, but manageable. I usually sit by the window and watching the flaps and ailerons move with that much intensity , usually indicates that the pilot and co pilot have to do there damn-est to keep the plane from losing speed and maintaining lift.

    The last major issue was that when the plane was approaching near v1, the pilot aborted because the right engine failed to reach its take off speed. I only found out this because as soon as the plane was taxied back, the maintenance crew opened up the engine for half out inspection and whatever repairs that needed to be made.

    As an airline pilot, this is seriously not safe. I would be freaking the f out if I was in the back. There are many videos on YouTube showing how unsafe Aeroflot is. Including one with snow still adhering to the wings.

    This guy took off in a massive storm. You can see clearly in the video that the pilot is dealing with massive rain, and stormy weather, which can also be associated with microbursts, wind shear and all the rest which can quickly turn ugly. Down drafts, microbursts and windshear are bad news. They can easily over power the aircraft and send it into the ground. This is basically a number one reason to avoid any thunderstorm. Especially when you have heavy rain and winds.

    Also look at the wind he's dealing with. He's using so much control input in what looks like a cross wind, the spoilers are lifting. Spoilers are designed to destroy lift. You really shouldn't use so much control input on takeoff to activate them. In most normal situations this doesn't happen, rudder is usually sufficient, or some aileron input, to the point where the spoilers don't activate.

    Although I wasn't there, I can clearly see this being not safe and many people in the industry know of this video and majority of people all agree. It was not safe. The one with the snow adhering to the wings on take off is another prime example. Airplanes don't like to fly with contaminated critical surfaces. They're just lucky most of it blew off prior to lift off.
