I wish the US congress follow Vietnam law. "LGBT people enjoy few protections under Vietnamese law". -

I believe the vote for marriage equality was scheduled for this spring. Leaders in Vietnam realize that it is a necessary step to protect it's people. It would be the first communist and first Asian country to legalize marriage. America is falling behind.

I'm glad this tragedy has the potential to lead to real reform in the east.

Two guys brutally rob and murder another guy and are duly convicted. Hardly newsworthy half way across the planet; I doubted there was a "Get out of Jail Free" card if the victim is gay in Vietnam.

(Muslim countries prob a different story)

"The court got it wrong. Obvioiusly, these killers were just expressing their right to free speech, just like advocates of marriage equality are expressing their right to free speech. I don't like it, but it is what it is. You can't both oppose hate and argue for liberty." - House Gays

In the US some killers of gays have beaten conviction, or gotten a light sentence, by using the "gay panic" defense. With often no witnesses to dispute them, the killers will say the deceased had approached them for gay sex, which so shocked and revolted the straight killers that they panicked and murdered them. Gullible and naive jurors have sometimes bought this story.

Art Deco isn't responsible for supplying evidence to support that statement.

There have been more than enough examples of use of this defense in recent memory, and anyone who follows the news regularly would remember them. Whether or not they constitute a statistically significant sample doesn't discredit the fact that the gay panic defense has been invoked numerous times since the 80s.
