ding! ding! ding! ladies and gentlemen we have a winner. however, imho, chicken hawk sounds much creepier than cougar. more predatory, maybe?
mind you, this is only the opinion of an aspiring dilf.

Yes, they are out there....ive met a few of them. They are great guys and are very attractive! For women you would refer to them as cougars, but as men we should refer to them as sharks.

what ya think?

Its either sharks or sugardaddies and i think sharks sounds hotter! haha

I like the "sharks" term.

Chicken-hawks are pretty much any man of at least middle age who goes for someone young enough to be his son.

If you want a term for a man specifically in 40s, who's independent and athletic--hell, scrap coming up with a term for it, just have him call me.

No,
They're called "gay men over 40"...

But if I can have my say, if you were to use "cougar" could we not shift that to men over 50? And personally I don't discriminate on age, maturity yes, age not so much.

My husband is 7 yrs younger than me, but most people think we're the same age--actually his own grandmother thought I was the younger one. LOL

To be a chicken hawk is to be someone that is well past 21 and goes for barely legal boys. So you can't be 30 and have a hot 50 year old boyfriend and call him a chicken hawk. But if you were say 31 and went for a 17 year old or younger than you would be.

35 years old is old??? Wow, that's quite sad if you think that because I think men (and women) don't get really interesting until aroud that age or older (certainly a 20 year old woman can't hold a candle to a 40 year old one if a man is being serious about his libido or his heart).

DILF I think has a nice ring for this type of guy, however.

I am not saying dating some one older is wrong. I just prefer to have more in common with the person I am with.
Growing up 10 years or more apart can be hard.
I don't understand my parents choice in music or the shows they watch. To date someone and not understand them is for me not a good thing. It just makes the relationship for me fail.
But this is just my option.

I don't understand why men have an age limit set for "too old"...what happens when you pass that age limit. You will then be "too old" and now your looking for only younger guys, that means you will are destined to be a chicken-hawk!

I love that men can be sexy into their 40's, 50's and in some cases 60's! It gives us all hope, I wouldn't be so quick to say 35+ is too old because one day you will wake up grey and wrinkly just like everyone else.

Depends on how you define it. I'd prefer, for instance, to date a guy within 6 years or so of my own age. But that's a moving target, so while at the moment that means my target age is 21-33, in 3 years it would be 24-36--assuming I keep it at 6 years. I think as I get older I'm more willing to consider a larger gap, but I'm already at the point where most college students are hot but not in the dating category. I doubt I'll revert to thinking undergrads are dating prospects.

I just don't think that much about it (age differences)...however, I have to say, I don't date (or trick) so I'm talking more about how I connect with other guys on a friendship level...

When I meet someone new, I don't start thinking....."Oh, I wonder if they like the same shows I like or the same music I like"....(though I understand the earlier posters point).....

I've met some men in my time much younger and much older than me and have found our personalities just "clicked" and we get along great....but like I posted earlier today.....the vast majority of my friends are guys in their late 20's to mid 30's.....funny thing is....they NEVER bring up my being much older....I'm the one that seems to have the problem with it....they'll even make comments from time to time about "some old guy" right in front of me and I'll point out "that old man is 5 years younger than me"....and they start trying to back out of the comment by reminding me I don't "look" or "act" my age....

Maybe I should...?

If we're lucky, we'll all get to enjoy that point in life where youth will look @ us in disdain...but you know what? I wouldn't be their age again for a million dollars....

I have heard many times, I repeat, wolves. Usually I've heard more in the "straight world," but that is the term.

It comes from the fact that many have grey hair, similar to grey wolves.

Shark, to me, seems extremely predatory.

I was a bit offended by your earlier post but as you explained yourself here I can understand and respect what you say.

I too have absolutely no interest in dating younger guys in their early 20's. No matter how much I tried to be open to the idea it just never seems to pan out. I never really was open to the idea but had a couple young ones pursue me in the past. I thought, "why not?", but it never went anywhere.

Well there we go; NoSuchPerson pointed us toward the some supporting documentation of the Chicken Hawk moniker that has been traditionally used to described an older male's preference of younger males as partners:
From Wikipedia as suggested by NoSuchPerson:Chickenhawk (gay slang)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For other uses, see Chickenhawk.
A chickenhawk or chicken hawk is slang used in American and British gay culture to denote older males who prefer younger males for partners, who may less often be called "chickens"[1], i.e. the prey of the chickenhawk.[2] Other variations include chicken queen[3] and chicken plucker.[2]
It is sometimes used as a disparaging vulgarity within the LGBT community, or seen as a slur against people in that community. The label can also be applied to a man who seeks partners with the look of someone young, regardless of their target's age.[4][5]
Much less frequently, "chickenhawk" indicates a man who uses underage boys for his sexual pleasure. The usage was publicized by members of the controversial group NAMBLA in the 1994 documentary film Chicken Hawk: Men Who Love Boys,[6] although Time magazine reported it in this sense in 1975.[3]
The use and significance of this term have been the subject of academic discussions [7][8] as well as popular reports.

Remember that as children we watched a famous chicken hawk on television courtesy of Warner Brothers' Looney Tunes. I always thought Foghorn Leghorn was one of the best, most underrated Looney Tunes characters: Henerey Hawk (the chicken hawk) and Miss Prissy were awesome:

Henery Hawk (the chicken hawk):

Miss Prissy:

Now I suppose some sort of a gay cougar cartoon character may be in order soon!

Just to follow up on my comment above about ageism and the general gay discounting of men when they get past a certain age, I think if we're only going on looks alone this can be an irrelevance. To only use African American men as an example, many of us can look exceedingly youthful and hot far into the 40's and 50's. If you wish you have your assumptions about age challenged, just as a few hot black men you see around how old they are...I guarantee you'll be surprised. Many are surprised when I tell them I'm almost 30 and due to genetics, if I continue to take care of myself I'll look this way for a long time.

XOXO

You called? LOL! anyway, call me shark, call me chickenhawk, call me troll, call me whatever! Im good at my age, and i dont feel shame going after young guys( as long as theyre above 21 yrs of age!) And it doesnt mean i dont go for guys my age either, because theres a lot of hot mature men out there too. Bottom line, it doesnt matter, age is a state of mind.
