When they say your name too much

I've been seeing this great guy with an awesome personality for about 2 weeks. I know this is probably him being cute and endearing, but he says my name a lot, whether in conversation or in texts. I can't help but feel a bit of condescension, like with some friends i'm not close with. If it's obvious who I'm addressing, I almost never refer to someone by his/her name... maybe I'm just weird?

Tell him it's obnoxious the way he always says your name, and if he doesn't stop you're going to throw up in his face.

He probably read somewhere that using a persons name in a conversation can be flattering, and he took it to heart. You always could mirror what he is doing and see if he gets the hint.

I always figure that they get it from watching too much day-time TV. Or maybe it's a "african american thing."

Um, one time I was on a date and halfway through I forgot what his name was!!! icon_lol.gif Not kidding. Maybe it's good he refers to you by first name even if it is a bit too frequent for your taste. icon_lol.gif

I've noticed this sometimes clued me in to a person's Asperger's. In his speech, does a pause, gulp or cadence interruption follow speaking your name?

I've heard familial-inflected incidents of this: father talked like this, thus son followed. Have you met others from his family?

Maybe he has memory issues and has to say your name over and over so he doesn't forget it. I find this happens a lot online not so much in real life, but you never know.

be glad u ain't referring to u as all those other obnoxious terms guys call each other like "man" "bud/buddy" "bro" "guy" "chief" "boss" its just an idiosyncracy that some DUDES have, just tell him off hadedly he doesn't have to say your name so much, you're not an urban legend or a fairy tale, repeating your name will not get you to grant him three wishes
