I rode for the 30 years I was in SoCal and put more miles on the bike than I did the car. What's the use of driving to the beach when there won't be any parking there anyway. Of course, in SoCal for about 90% of the year the weather was ideal for riding. It's about the opposite back here in Central Ohio.
I rode everyday and in fact used to pack my net book and air card in a backpack and bike to the boardwalk at Venice beach so I could have a little breakfast and get caught up on the east coast stuff. Then take a good ride and head back to my home office. Worked out great.
