I've seen a few gay themed movies and they're always campy comedies or romance movies where they always have a sad ending. Kind of gets old and boring fast.

So i'm curious if you could write/produce your own gay movie what would it be about? What would the main plot be? What kind of actors would you get or do you have anyone in mind?

Do you think you could do a good job producing a gay movie?

Because I think who else could make a gay movie other than gay men icon_biggrin.gif

    A. Yes I can write, but cannot produce!

What would the main plot be?
    A. Here is a small sample story for you ;)
A and B met online, they both turned out good friends...
A is gay, B is not
    B discovers A is a man
    B rejects first
but Love trumps over sex. So, B tells A that he is still in love with him even if A is a man
A is very happy, They both kissed,
A & B married and lived happily ever after

What kind of actors would you get or do you have anyone in mind?
    A. No idea!

Britney Spears 5 biggest fanbois put on their "dressy" abercrombie ensembles and set off in a sassy blue convertible for a road trip to visit her childhood trailer. It was to be a summer of fleeting romances and lasting memories.

"You stupid bitch!" the driver exclaimed to the front seat passenger, "you forgot the special edition remix compilation box set!"

The passenger poised himself to retort, but suddenly, a swarm of zombies came down in hot air balloons. They surrounded the car, which had now come to a total stop in the drivers panic.

The zombies finally reached the ground; the stench of their decomposing flesh was overwhelming. They were pawing at the horrified passengers who huddled together in the open convertible.
"Omg stop it! You're ruining my brand new puka shell necklace!" one cried out, his bone white knuckles clutched around an oversized pair of D&G sunglasses.

It was too late to call out now though, the snarling and gurgling zombies were already crawling over the edge of the car.

Wow this thread sounds so fun I'm sorry I LOVE movies and yes most of the time gay movies are heartbreaking dramas and I hate feeling like I need a hug goddammit.

I've always been a big fan of mafia movies like The Godfather and A Prophet. My idea would be a young son in a crime family (let's call him Daniel) who is forced into being a criminal. In this job he kills people, and runs a black market. He's guilty and doesn't want to be in this business. He's pretty much lost his innocence. During this rite of passage for him he is in a committed relationship with a man (who we'll call Joseph) who he cheats on, yet is still in love with him.

Against to his conservative family's wishes, Daniel marries Joseph. But not a legal marriage, just a private matrimony...and despite the family's dislike for Joseph, he's tough and defends himself.

The thing that drives this story for me would be their marriage, and we assume from the start that Joseph is just an ordinary and fun-loving gay man. It's clearly obvious why Daniel loves him. Yet Joseph is incredibly loyal. When he finds out his lover has committed crimes and has been cheated on, we assume he would break down. Instead, it's quite chilling and his entire persona turns, he still loves him, but he offers his loyalty for his lover's fidelity. And by "loyalty" I mean he pulls strings, talks to underground people for the benefit of his partner, etc. He becomes quite powerful by staying by his husband, and Daniel's family accepts Joseph sooner or later, yet while the bond and love is still strong between the couple, the innocence of it all has been lost.

I know it sounds kinda silly but goddammit I want a movie like this so bad. Especially since when it comes to gay marriages, they're usually depicted in scandalous ways in Hollywood, and when it comes to Hollywood, marriages aren't typically explored. And of course, again, films like Weekend are A+ but I need a gay movie in a different genre in my opinion.

    1. Would I write/produce? - Not sure about producing. But I'd happily write and direct.

    2. Actors? - I only have one for Daniel. A young man with dark hair is good. One who is handsome and strong yet can portray chilling vulnerability and authority.

Sorry but this question was too fun not to answer.

Seems like a version of the above was done 12 years ago, with a much more comedic premise - gay couple who are hit men for the mob, who are fine with them, try to hide their relationship from their parents, who aren't, by pretending to run a catering business and teaching the mafioso henchmen to act gay:

Just added it to my watchlist haha thank you! icon_biggrin.gif

Although my "movie" has a more Animal Kingdom and Mystic River vibe to it. Nonetheless I'm still watching that movie. icon_smile.gif

I would start with Michael Cunningham's beautifully written "The Hours".

I would replace the three main woman with roles similar to Dorothy, Rose and Blanche from that perennial favorite TV series, The Golden Girls.

For casting, I would approach the agents of Guy Pierce, Hugo Weaving and Terrance Stamp.

Then I would workshop the story until magic was pouring out, probably aiming for the contemporary character to replace her love of her gay friend dying of AIDS with an obsession with cheese cake. The gay friend's fifties mom would be a blond ditz who didn't actually abandon him so much as forget where she lived and wind up in Canada, or maybe Minnesota.

Virginia Woolf would actually be a trampy southern belle from Cornwall with a series of lovers and a very sketchy accent who was driven mad by trying to write a book with all of her thoughts crammed into the events of planning a party in a single day and who drowns herself - not in a stream but in a bottle of Jack Daniels.

K.D. Lang would play the gay man dying of AIDS and would sing the theme song.
