Hi, I'm pretty fit but have been getting a bit slack in the gym because most of my training is just for vanity (and health) so after some serious thinking I've set a goal to do a half triathlon by next December.

My question about muscle training and nutrition: What kind of programs are people following and is there a recommended source/web page on the net that someone can recommend so that I can set clear goals?

To get motivated for the short term I've entered into three 10K runs, the first one being November 11th. My time is just about an hour for the 10K. I've also enrolled in a swimming school course that meets twice a week. Any advise on when to include muscle training and how often? Also, eating for endurance sport is much different from weight training. Any advise for someone who doesn't want to take meal replacements?

    Thanks,

    Steven

cteavin...there are so many triathletes on RJ, you can trip over them by merely doing a search on "Tri". Try that...I am sure you 'll get lots of good advice.

check out your local tri club. they specialize in newbies getting into the sport. or Team in Training, is also very good.

    good luck!

OK, just joined here and you've probably figured out the answer to your questions, but here are some favorite tri websites:

www.trifind.com Most comprehensive list of races that I know of, but also check www.active.com.

www.beginnertriathlete.com. They've moved to more of a sales/subscription model, but a lot of stuff is available for free there.

www.trinewbies.com. Again, another good starter site.

www.slowtwitch.com. Very geeky, but lots of great info.
