Yep, these are the kinds of things you have to research when writing a novel. Something pops into your head like, "He talked to an Armenian man with dreadlocks..." then you have to see if that's possible. Or is it against Armenian culture to have dreadlocks? Are there pictures of any Armenian men on Google with dreadlocks?

I don't see any. Know of any? icon_wink.gif

Like Armenians from Glendale, CA or Armenians from the real deal former Soviet republic?

Did Serj Tankian or anyone else from System of a Down ever have dreads? They all had wild hair at some point, lol.

If you are writing fiction, they do anything you want them to do.

rofl, perhaps your Armenian man had lived ten years in Jamaica and spent time with the rastafarians.

I think if they are of American Cultured then yes they might if he was a hippy ... we have a lot of people that dread up their hair around here, but mostly kids (20's) and blonde. So it depends where the story is situated. If it is the Western Hemisphere, then it is possible otherwise on the other side of the world he might have his hair slicked back .. but I doubt if he'd have dreadlocks

I could obviously say a Jamaican man with dreadlocks, but I want something different. It's an artist he meets at a party. Hmmmm, what other nationality? BTW, the guy in the bottom pic is Irish. I saw that during my search.

I am Armenian and my general understanding is that men from Armenia (living in and/or heavily embracing the culture) generally do not grow dreadlocks (perhaps some of the youth, either way it would be considered unorthodox). However I imagine there are a number who do so considering there are more Armenians living outside Armenia than inside. As such there is a decent amount of diversity, culturally speaking, when it comes to Armenians so in my opinion I don't think it's outside the bounds of reality (if you're looking for a very realistic character).
