It wasn't just her conservative views that were the problem, though any person is inevitably going to have high negatives from being associated with the US Right Wing and its War on Women, when your program's audience is mainly female. No, Hasselbeck was also an intellectual featherweight, who didn't compare favorably with the other much smarter members of the program.

But I was happy to see her there (and I was once in the studio audience myself, and saw her weak performance up close), because she brought discredit to Right Wing views. My fear would be that the producers will feel a need to replace her with another Right Winger for "balance", and that woman will have the intellectual competence & persuasiveness that Hasselbeck lacked. Better to have a fool for an opponent than a brain.

You're right, Art, in that she could be annoying, but was she that much more annoying than the rest of them? I mean nobody is going to confuse an argument between Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters for Buckley vs. Vidal.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat but I really liked Elisabeth. She was a supporter of marriage equality and a rather reasonable Republican; her views tended to be along the lines of my friends that are Republican.

Hell, she was a stronger supporter of gay rights than the house gays here. I can't see Hasselbeck making excuses for homophobia the way our resident conservanuts do.

Sorry to see her go. I think S.E. Cupp will probably replace her, no?

A good reply. Yes, she took some positions I could endorse. But not often. And I confess to not having watched the show in quite a while, so I can't make a comparison with Sherri Shepherd. When I watched the show (infrequently), Hasselbeck was the intellectual runt of the litter.

Still, I admire your views here, so I'll take your comments under consideration. Perhaps Hasselbeck will have a revival somewhere. Media personalities often have 9 lives.

The problem with Hasselbeck isn't her conservatism, it's her occasional habit (especially during an election year) of turning into a Fox news anchor who will argue to death to defend her party even when she knows she's wrong.

The fact that she could never take a joke about herself didn't help much either.

I used to like it when she and Rosie O'Donnell went at it all gnashing their teeth and crying and Barbara would be yelling at them to knock it off and pulling out her hair and Whoopi'd be all laughing and rolling her eyes and shit..icon_wink.gif

I always hated how uneven the arguments on the View always seemed. Even though I never agree with Elisabeth's positions, I always found myself feeling bad for her because she'd get ganged up on or cut off, and she wasn't reasoned out enough to make her points well. They either need to make the show all progressives, or get people that can make intelligent arguments from both sides.

Don't they need someone to argue though and laugh at for the entertainment though? I thought that was the sole reason of her being on there. If everyone is liberal and agreeable it makes for a boring show.

Maybe they'll replace Joy Behar, who announced her upcoming departure today, with another conservative. That'll even the odds, particularly if they can come up with an intentionally funny right winger.

oh no, no doubt faux news offered her something on their channel, Art is right, every talentless political right wing twit deserves a second chance, she did have the fashion thing right, segment where she picks uber clothes for women, my guess her show is a fashion one and not a political one which requires brain powericon_rolleyes.gif

Lizzy at her best, clothes shopping for others

Let's see ..... maybe Mary Matalin (funny) and Liz Cheney (serious) would provide for some debate? Or maybe Ann Colter as funny
