Anyone else have one right now?....

Mine is just ripping me up right now!
Went to my Doctor this morning and discovered that I have a sinus and ear infection along with my cold..... so I can't breath, can't hear, can't swallow, have a headache from the unproductive coughing....vertigo and nausea, body aches and now the runs from the antibiotics for the ear and sinus infections.......AND I STILL HAVE THIS FUCKING COLD! Yes I know that antibiotics don't touch a cold, being viruses....still al the fucking Vitamins and supplements and ZICAM and everything....hell...I got a flu shot! Feel like I'm dying.....the dog and kids have abandoned me for being a "whiny bitch"....nice...I'm asleep most of the time!

Modern medicine tells me that sleep, hydrate, eat lightly and lots of Tylenol and chicken soup...and I'll be better in about 7 days...do nothing and it will be a week!
So frustrated and feel like shit.....
Dayquil and Nitequill help for a short time....but man, those dreams are REALLY fucking weird!

Never have heard a real answer to this.....Do you work out if you have a cold?

OK....rant over....and I still feel like shit....I need to reload the vaporizer and get some hot tea ...

You are 52 and should probably know by now how to put up with with a "cocktail sickness" as I like to call it and that yes being sick entails staying put for a week or so icon_biggrin.gif

Did your doctor tell you what is causing your more severe symptoms? It does not sound like you have the flu, rather, it seems like you might have strep, which almost always causes a sinus and ear infection simultaneously (and conjunctivitis if you're not constantly washing your hands). Thus, the fact that you got a flu shot means nothing at this point in time. Honestly, I find that strep usually hurts more than the flu does. I had the flu a little over a month ago and it was NOTHING to the strep I had a couple summers ago. Knocked me on my ass for over a week.

I recommend going back in for a strep culture if you haven't had one. If it's strep, there are very powerful medicines out there, some antibiotic some not, that can help tremendously with strep. There's a new drug out there that is like a super kangaroo kick to the face of strep. I forget what it's called - it will burn you out but it makes most of the worst symptoms fade within a day or two. Then again, if it's not strep you have, antibiotics will not, as you said, do anything.

And no, never ever work out when you are sick. Ever. You can walk a little bit if you feel like it, just to shake off some of the aches that are made worse by lethargy. But your body is already straining so hard to kill off that which ails you, straining it any more will almost certainly delay your recovery rate or, in a worst case scenario, inflict long lasting or permanent damage.

    yep...did the strep culture...NEGATIVE....
I read that the flu shot given this fall was a total misfire....only 10% effective...as the wrong strains were selected...you try to be proactive....but this shit still happens...

might seem like a dumb question, but how often do you wash your hands? Do you use other methods such as hand sanitizer? I work in food service and I don't allow my kitchen workers to use hand sanitizer at work. They wash their hands with normal antibacterial soap. Reason is that studies have shown that overuse of hand sanitizer causes more damage than good. As proof, some of my most-oft sick workers are OBSESSED with sanitation and cleanliness whereas I, who simply wash my hands in the bathroom or before handling food, get sick maybe twice a year.

No! Do not workout if you feel like shit! Get over your infections first and then go back to the gym. Your body needs the rest/recovery time! The gym will be there when you are fully recovered.

Flu shot does nothing for the common cold and you know that. I just read the flu shot was 68% effective this year. Guess we'll never really know.

I had a cold that wouldn't die a few months ago. Stayed in bed for 4 days and was fine.

    Good luck.

I stay in bed for 3-4 days (when I'm not at work), stay hydrated, mountain of blankets on, spicy soup, tylenol (or whatever cold med I got) sweat it all out and I'm all good... gotta sweat it out... at least for me...

Just recovered a couple of days ago from cold, cough & fever...
I drank a lot of hot soup, especially in the mornings...It worked for me pretty well!
I recovered in 4 days! with little help from antibiotics & paracetamol...

if you want to workout...first thing you should do is unblock your nose...or else it makes us feel suffocated :-/

and by the way...eat citrus fruits if available...it will not treat you but it will reduce the duration of the disease...

@Philip: No. No no no no. You need to *stay hydrated* when you are sick. You should NOT be doing anything to force yourself to sweat. Of course sickness will make you sweat naturally, but you do not want to exacerbate it.

@Harry: Vitamin C will only help if you keep a constant supply of it in your body, before you get sick. If you catch a cold, you're already at the point where glutting on citrus fruit won't help.
