No thought besides two idiots took advantage of a incohearant girl. Lock em up and throw away the key, her life will never be the same and considering they had no value for who she was they deserve no grief frm me.

    Yes, she was raped. Satisfied?!

That was utterly disgusting and uncalled for. Truly beyond the pale.

What they did was wrong, but how fucking stupid do you have to be to drink yourself unconscious in front of a bunch of horny teenage frat boys? Who obviously are also highly intoxicated.

Problem is MUCH bigger than these 2 boys rape of this drunk girl.....
Much like the culture around football at PENN STATE, This High School Football team enjoyed a range of "perks" that made them to be "local celebrities" that got away with all types of activities. The parents, teachers, and residents of Steubenville tolerated, allowed and even encouraged this type of culture around their very successful football program...as just "boys, being boys"....That area is always an economic hard luck story, and has always had a very corrupt history.....The best consistent news was always about HS football.....is it any wonder the town let these boys go wild? The 2 boys did the rape, but this entire city is to blame for looking the other way and allowing a "Lord of the Flies" mentality to grow.... very sad.

And...I think the girl and her parents need to be put on notice.....there is NO DRINKING under 21, for a reason.....

Nice small town, nice hometown boys.

    It's all a lie.

These insular jockockracies are the ideal breeding ground for sociopaths with two faces -- one they flash to their coaches, teachers, and parents, and the other they save for the kids they deem less-than.

They -- and their adult lawyers -- actually argued that consent went out the window because the girl couldn't say anything, and that whole party of cretins did nothing to stop them.

    Think of the children.

    Right.

Since she was impaired, she wasn't legally able to give consent, right?

16 is the legal age of consent in many jurisdictions.

She wouldn't have gotten drunk with two hot frat guys if she didn't wanna get laid by them in the first place. The alcohol gave her an excuse to use for her parents...not to mention the fact that she was probably pissed that she didn't get to enjoy it cause she was passed out.

Women have been fighting for equal rights for decades, yet they still don't have them. If this had been two hot guys "raping" another hot guy, nobody would have ever been charged. Women are still treated as the "less than" in society, as though they can't make their own sexual decisions.

the issue isn't statutory rape. the issue isn't under age drinking, the issue is two people sexually assaulted another person.

what you say is absolutely disgusting. drinking with someone doesn't imply you want a person to shove his hand up your ass while you're passed out. no one can give consent when he/she is passed out. you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.

men with your attitude have been raping women for millennia. you want to talk about equal rights? how about you learn some fucking respect for women for a start since clearly you align yourself more closely with rapists.

i've taken the liberty to highlight the relevant parts for you.

    "Dear Todd Akin,

I am writing to you tonight about rape. It is 2 AM and I am unable to sleep here in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I am in Bukavu at the City of Joy to serve and support and work with hundreds, thousands of women who have been raped and violated and tortured from this ceaseless war for minerals fought on their bodies.

I am in Congo but I could be writing this from anywhere in the United States, South Africa, Britain, Egypt, India, Philippines, most college campuses in America. I could be writing from any city or town or village where over half a billion women on the planet are raped in their lifetime.

Mr. Akin, your words have kept me awake.

As a rape survivor, I am reeling from your recent statement where you said you misspoke when you said that women do not get pregnant from legitimate rape, and that you were speaking "off the cuff."

Clarification. You didn't make some glib throw away remark. You made a very specific ignorant statement clearly indicating you have no awareness of what it means to be raped. And not a casual statement, but one made with the intention of legislating the experience of women who have been raped. Perhaps more terrifying: it was a window into the psyche of the GOP.

You used the expression "legitimate" rape as if to imply there were such a thing as "illegitimate" rape. Let me try to explain to you what that does to the minds, hearts and souls of the millions of women on this planet who experience rape. It is a form of re-rape. The underlying assumption of your statement is that women and their experiences are not to be trusted. That their understanding of rape must be qualified by some higher, wiser authority. It delegitimizes and undermines and belittles the horror, invasion, desecration they experienced. It makes them feel as alone and powerless as they did at the moment of rape.

When you, Paul Ryan and 225 of your fellow co-sponsors play with words around rape suggesting only "forcible" rape be treated seriously as if all rapes weren't forcible, it brings back a flood of memories of the way the rapists played with us in the act of being raped -- intimidating us, threatening us,muting us. Your playing with words like "forcible" and "legitimate" is playing with our souls which have been shattered by unwanted penises shoving into us, ripping our flesh, our vaginas, our consciousness, our confidence, our pride, our futures.

Now you want to say that you misspoke when you said that a legitimate rape couldn't get us pregnant. Did you honestly believe that rape sperm is different than love sperm, that some mysterious religious process occurs and rape sperm self-destructs due to its evilcontent? Or, were you implying that women and their bodies are somehow responsible for rejecting legitimate rape sperm, once again putting the onus on us? It would seem you were saying that getting pregnant after a rape would indicate it was not a "legitimate" rape.

Here's what I want you to do. I want you to close your eyes and imagine that you are on your bed or up against a wall or locked in a small suffocating space. Imagine being tied up there and imagine some aggressive, indifferent, insane stranger friend or relative ripping off your clothes and entering your body -- the most personal, sacred, private part of your body -- and violently, hatefully forcing themself into you so that you are ripped apart. Then imagine that stranger's sperm shooting into you and filling you and you can't get it out. It is growing something in you. Imagine you have no idea what that life will even consist of, spiritually made in hate, not knowing the mental or health background of the rapist.

Then imagine a person comes along, a person who has never had that experience of rape, and that person tells you, you have no choice but to keep that product of rape growing in you against your will and when it is born it has the face of your rapist, the face of the person who has essentially destroyed your being and you will have to look at the face every day of your life and you will be judged harshly if you cannot love that face.

I don't know if you can imagine any of this (leadership actually requires this kind of compassion), but if you are willing to go to the depth of this darkness, you will quickly understand that there is NO ONE WHO CAN MAKE THAT CHOICE to have or not have the baby, but the person carrying that baby herself.

I have spent much time with mothers who have given birth to children who are the product of rape. I have watched how tortured they are wrestling with their hate and anger, trying not to project that onto their child.

I am asking you and the GOP to get out of my body, out of my vagina, my womb, to get out of all of our bodies. These are not your decisions to make. These are not your words to define.

Why don't you spend your time ending rape rather than redefining it? Spend your energy going after those perpetrators who so easily destroy women rather than parsing out manipulative language that minimizes their destruction.

And by the way you've just given millions of women a very good reason to make sure you never get elected again, and an insanely good reason to rise.

While the rape is disgusting and there's no excuse for it we can't turn a blind eye to the minor drinking either. Rape was not her punishment. It was a consequence of foolish actions on all of their parts.

Sadly, she was a victim, but if she had been responsible and not making a fool of herself then maybe, just maybe this would have not happened.

So yes, these kids are criminals and deserve jail, and she's a victim, but an irresponsible victim.

You need to learn to get to the point. Are you coming after me or someone else?

i'm sorry your reading comprehension skills are somewhat lacking. i'll be more direct: you're defending a guy who thinks that girl deserved to be sexually assaulted.

I feel bad for all involved because some mentality never seems to change. Sports in our school systems always comes first, education second. If you are on whatever sports team, you are lead to believe you are above reproach and can get away with anything.

Teach young men to use the head on their shoulders and not be lead around by the one between their legs. Teach them to respect men and women alike, and teach young women the same thing.

Yes, the victim was drunk...poor decision on her part...but she should have woke up with a hangover and not as a rape victim.

We've all made poor decisions at one time or another, unfortunately these decisions will follow these young people around for the rest of their lives and it could have been avoided.

Somebody made the connection with Lord of the Flies and I think that's apt. Where the fuck are the adults in this town? How is it possible these idiots could be carrying a naked, incapacitated 16 year old from party to party and no adults are around to stop them?

It was a truly appalling scene in that courtroom as these two douchebags broke down in tears, but not until after their "blame the victim" defense perpetrated by some of the worst hack lawyers this side of a Law and Order episode failed them.

It really burns me when conservative tout the midwest as a paragon of virtue. Palin called it the "Real America." Fuck these backwards, small town pieces of shit.

You are making a lot of assumptions there, and based on your comment I think you are missing the point. Your statement "She wouldn't have gotten drunk with two hot frat guys if she didn't wanna get laid by them in the first place." is like saying "she was asking for it anyways". I can't tell you how many levels of wrong this way of thinking is.

And your latter statement, "Women are still treated as the "less than" in society, as though they can't make their own sexual decisions." is also missing the point entirely. She didn't get a choice. Period. And now the media is suggesting that the rapists are the real victims here.
